‘Going out’ and ‘going on’
While China’s overseas engagements are frequently scrutinised as spatial enclaves, their temporal constitution remains largely unexamined. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork at a Chinese state-owned sisal plantation in Tanzania, this article identifies a fundamental disjuncture: what I term ‘teleological going out’, the state’s mandate as a teleological projection towards distant futures, collides with ‘polyphonic going on’, the everyday unfolding…

Estimating China’s CO2 emissions under the influence of Covid-19 epidemic using a novel fractional multivariate nonlinear grey model
Daoism and Sacrifices to the Five Sacred Peaks in Tang China (618-907)
The five sacred peaks had both political and religious significance in traditional China. Daoism profoundly impacted the state sacrifice to the sacred peaks in the medieval era. Through examining related stone inscriptions, we argue that the establishment of the Shrines for the Perfected Lords of the five sacred peaks, the Shrine for the Elder of Mount Qingcheng, and the Temple for the Envoy of the Nine Heavens at Mount Lu were in debt to the sug…
Mount Longjiao’s “Capital of Immortals” [龍角仙都]
The Abbey Celebrating the Tang [ Qingtang guan 慶唐觀], a Daoist temple on Mount Longjiao in southern Shanxi Province, played a special role in the religious history of China in the Tang dynasty. Because of the myth that Laozi himself emerged from this mountain during the war to found the Tang state, this abbey was closely linked to the political legitimation of the Tang. Even plants in this abbey were regarded as the harbingers of the fate of the s…
Electrochemical Performance of FeF3·0.33H2O/MWCNTs Composite Cathode Synthesized by Solvothermal Process
This paper reports a FeF3·0.33H2O/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) composite for energy storage applications. The composite material is prepared by solvothermal reaction with FeF3·3H2O and MWCNTs as precursors, and FeF3·3H2O was removed of crystalliferous water and converted to FeF3·0.33H2O during solvothermal treatment. Structural characterizations show that FeF3·0.33H2O that crystalline with a diameter of about 30 nm were distributed in t…
