Open Access•Qianru Chen, Manyu Wu et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2023

To clarify the influence mechanism and action path of social networks on farmland abandonment, taking the hilly and mountainous areas of Ganzhou, China as the study area, this paper first explores the influence of farmers' social networks on abandonment; furthermore, a mediation effect model is introduced to test the inhibiting effect of farmland transfer on abandonment under the scenario of expanding farmers' social networks. The results show th…

  • Early warning of regional land‐use ecological security issues: A case‐study of Xingguo County, China

Open Access•Yafen He, Hao Cheng et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2022

Poor land use remains a major threat to ecological security. Land ecological security early warning and simulation of land‐use patterns based on the ‘anti‐planning’ theory provide many research bases for maintaining land ecological security. However, their utility with respect to illegal development and construction is limited. This study defines the concept of early warning based regional land‐use ecological security and builds a framework syste…

Open Access•Hualin Xie, Hua-lin XIE et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2022

Ecological land is constantly modified by agriculture and construction, which leads to soil erosion, land degradation, soil pollution flood disasters, and many other land ecological security problems, threatening sustainable development. Few studies have been made to construct a land‐use ecological security pattern (LUESP) aimed at achieving urban expansion, food security, and ecological security from the perspective of land‐use needs. Therefore, this research based on farmer classification and field research, a questionnaire survey, and PROBIT model was adopted to analyze farmers' willingness to fallow and the influence this has in a rocky desertification fall…

  • Assessing Changes in Ecosystem Service Values in Response to Land Cover Dynamics in Jiangxi Province, China

Open Access•Xinmin Zhang, Hualin Xie et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

This paper examines the ecosystem service values of Jiangxi province, China using the benefit transfer approach. The land cover dynamics results show that cropland and forest are the main land cover types in Jiangxi province. Urban land drastically increased after 2000, expanding from 846.54 km 2 in 2000 to 2317.48 km 2 in 2015. Forest and water obviously decreased across the study periods. Consequently, the total ecosystem service values decreas…

    Open Access•Hualin Xie, C C Kung et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2012

Ecological land is like the "liver" of a city and is very useful to public health. Ecological land change is a spatially dynamic non-linear process under the interaction between natural and anthropogenic factors at different scales. In this study, by setting up natural development scenario, object orientation scenario and ecosystem priority scenario, a Cellular Automation (CA) model has been established to simulate the evolution pattern of ecolog…

Land use/land cover change has been attracting increasing attention in the field of global environmental change research because of its role in the social and ecological environment. To explore the ecological risk characteristics of land use change in the Poyang Lake Eco-economic Zone of China, an eco-risk index was established in this study by the combination of a landscape disturbance index with a landscape fragmentation index. Spatial distribu…

Ecological security and environmental sustainability are the foundations of sustainable development. With the acceleration of urbanization, increasing human activities have promoted greater impacts on the eco-spaces that maintain ecological security. Regional key eco-space has become the primary need to maintain environmental sustainability and can offer society with continued ecosystem services. In this paper, considering the security of water r…
