Open Access•Yajuan Zhou, Ershen Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Environment Development and…•2024

  • Unveiling the driver behind China’s greening trend

Open Access•Sai Qu, Jiangong Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2023

Urban and rural areas play an important role in the greenness change in China, despite exhibiting divergent landscape ecologies. Although recent studies have revealed an overall greening pattern in China, the relative contribution of urban and rural vegetation to nationwide greening trend and their driving mechanisms behind these changes remain poorly understood. Here, we first utilized a high-resolution land use/cover dataset (GlobeLand30) to es…

  • Satellite remote sensing analysis to monitor revegetation in the Yangtze River basin, China

Open Access•Boyan Li, Yunchen Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2022

Revegetation programmes aim to avoid land degradation, control soil erosion, reduce floods, and improve ecological conditions. China has planted billions of trees over the past 20 years. However, little is known about the effectiveness of this artificial revegetation and its consequences on China's national conservation policies and changes in biophysical factors at the county level. Here we use satellite time series data and develop a new metric…

  • Evolution of the Pattern of Spatial Expansion of Urban Land Use in the Poyang Lake Ecological Economic Zone

Open Access•Yang Zhong, Aiwen Lin et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

To grasp the evolutionary characteristics and regularity of urban land expansion patterns in the Poyang Lake Ecological Economic Zone, this study, based on nighttime lighting data, uses the Landsat series satellite simultaneous data and cluster analysis to correct the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program−Operational Linescan System (DMSP-OLS) nighttime lighting data and then uses the auxiliary data-based comparison method to determine the thr…

  • Evaluating Ecosystem Services Supply and Demand Dynamics and Ecological Zoning Management in Wuhan, China

Open Access•Feiyan Chen, Ling Li et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

The concept of ecosystem services (ES) supply and demand has attracted increasing attention in science and policy making because it effectively links ecosystem services to human well-being. The imbalance of ES supply and demand in urban areas has become a key issue in regional sustainable development. In this context, we calculated ES supply and demand for Wuhan City, China, using the ES supply and demand ratio (ESDR) and the comprehensive ES sup…

  • Spatial-Temporal Evolution of the Distribution Pattern of Neolithic Sites in Han River Basin, China

Wenmin Qin, Lunche Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•2018•References: 16

This study analyzed the spatial and temporal distributions of 644 Neolithic sites in the Han River basin, China. The results showed that 31.06% of the Neolithic sites were distributed on low-altitude plains with an average altitude of 144.78 m; 22.98% were located on low platforms with an average altitude of 137.92 m, and 12.73% were distributed on low-altitude hills with an average altitude of 240.77 m. The aggregation fractal dimension (A), the…

  • Gated university campus and its implications for socio-spatial inequality

    Open Access•Cheng Sun, Jianquan Cheng et al.•ARTICLE•Habitat International•2018•Cited by: 3•References: 45

Rapid urbanization has led to a massive transformation of urban space in China, spatially and socially. Its higher education has been growing much faster than ever before, along with an explosive increase of university students’ population. Different from the Western universities, a majority of Chinese university students are required to reside in gated campuses. Their accessibilities to public transport and subsequent spatial and social implicat…

  • Mapping of Cu and Pb Contaminations in Soil Using Combined Geochemistry, Topography, and Remote Sensing

Open Access•Yiyun Chen, Yaolin Liu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2012

Heavy metal pollution in soil is becoming a widely concerning environmental problem in China. The aim of this study is to integrate multiple sources of data, namely total Cu and Pb contents, digital elevation model (DEM) data, remote sensing image and interpreted land-use data, for mapping the spatial distribution of total Cu and Pb contamination in top soil along the Le'an River and its branches. Combined with geographical analyses and watershed…
