Identification with the aggressor and doubt regarding abuse-related appraisals as predictors of depression and anxiety in childhood abuse survivors.
245). Analyses revealed that higher IWA and DARA scores at T1 were significantly associated with greater concurrent and subsequent depression and anxiety symptoms. Two profiles emerged, representing co-occurring high versus low levels of IWA and DARA (i.e., reflecting overall co-occurrence of both constructs at different levels). Latent profile membership predicted depressive and anxiety symptoms at T2, beyond age, abuse severity, abuse recurrenc…
A double betrayal: The implications of institutional betrayal for trauma-related symptoms in intimate partner violence survivors
1.03) for each increase in institutional betrayal, after controlling for income, having children with the abusive partner, degree of IPV exposure, and being abused by multiple partners. The present results suggest that institutional betrayal can be a retraumatizing experience, amplifying trauma-related distress in IPV survivors. The relationship between different forms of childhood abuse and subsequent body dysmorphic disorder and complex PTSD symptoms among Israeli women
217) were classified as having a history of childhood abuse. Background variables, BDD symptoms, and the classification and symptoms of PTSD and complex PTSD were assessed online via self-report measures. Results indicated elevated BDD scores in childhood abuse survivors and relationships between symptoms of BDD, PTSD, and DSO in childhood abuse survivors. Levels of emotional abuse served as a trans-diagnostic risk factor for PTSD, DSO, and BDD s…
Sensory modulation difficulties and PTSD: A prospective study during and after rocket attacks
The current findings suggest that high sensory responsiveness is a risk factor for PTSD and that early trauma-related symptomatology may serve as a mechanism underlying the relationship between high sensory responsiveness and PTSD. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
Broken trust - Institutional betrayal and posttraumatic distress in mothers of children with neuropsychiatric disorders
The present results suggest that institutions' failure to fulfill their obligations may increase vulnerability to posttraumatic distress among mothers of children with neuropsychiatric disorders
Institutional betrayal in the face of a collective national trauma in Israel
On October 7, 2023, Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants infiltrated Israel, raping, abducting, and slaughtering individuals at a music festival, and in towns, Kibbutzim, and cities across the border. Over 1400 Israelis and foreign citizens were murdered, 247 were abducted, and over 5500 were wounded. Since then, more than 12,000 rockets and mortars have been fired into Israel, causing death and injury, and leading to the displacement of approximate…
Testing previously proposed models of the Tonic Immobility Scale in a peritraumatic sample of Israeli civilians: Support for a three-factor model
This study supports using a three-factor model with latent constructs, and the scale appears to be psychometrically sound when translated into Hebrew. Future research should seek to replicate these findings in different trauma populations and should study the unique association of trauma symptomatology. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)
A Complex Relationship: Intimate Partner Violence, Identification With the Aggressor, and Guilt
This study explored the relation between guilt and identification with the aggressor (IWA) and the moderating role of IWA in the relation between intimate partner violence (IPV) and guilt. An online survey was conducted among a convenience sample of 700 women. IPV survivors demonstrated elevated guilt, and IWA was related to guilt. Furthermore, IWA moderated the relation between IPV and guilt: Among participants with low IWA levels, IPV was unrel…
Shorter Telomeres Among Individuals With Physical Disability: The Moderating Role of Perceived Stress
The present findings suggest that individuals with physical disability and who exhibit high levels of perceived stress may be particularly vulnerable for accelerated cellular aging, suggesting that perceived stress can be used as a valuable target for intervention
The Toll of Feeling Older: Subjective Age Moderates the Associations Between Anxiety Sensitivity and Symptoms of Anxiety and Depression During the Covid-19 Epidemic
The findings are consistent with theories that view subjective age as an intraindividual construct involved in modulating important mental health outcomes in the context of coping with stress
The longitudinal associations between attitudes to aging and attachment insecurities among combat veterans
For combat veterans, the trauma of war can have lasting effects, that may later extend to attitudes toward one's own aging (ATOA). The present study sought to examine whether attachment insecurities may help to predict ATOA in later life, while also exploring the moderating role of combat exposure concerning the effects of attachment insecurities on subsequent ATOA. A cohort of 171 veterans of the Israeli 1973 Yom Kippur War (mean age = 68.4, SD …
Childhood Sexual Abuse and Sexual Motivations – The Role of Dissociation
The present study sought to examine the relations between a history of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and sexual motivations and to explore the moderating role of dissociation within these relations. The study was conducted among 889 men and women (ages 18-70). Results indicated a history of CSA was significantly related to higher scores on self-affirmation, coping, partner approval and peer pressure sexual motivations. Interactions between CSA and…
Impostorism, subjective age, and perceived health among aging veterans
Telomere Length and Depression Among Ex-Prisoners of War: The Role of Subjective Age
Findings suggest that the detrimental ramifications of accelerated subjective age involve premature cellular senesces, and may explain the relation between depression and accelerated aging processes among trauma victims. Hence, clinical interventions may seek to address accelerated subjective age among trauma survivors who suffer from depression
Posttraumatic growth and perceived health: The role of posttraumatic stress symptoms
The contested discourse regarding the nature of posttraumatic growth (PTG) includes 2 main competitive claims. The first argues that PTG reflects authentic positive transformation while the second posits that PTG reflects illusory defenses that could be maladaptive in the long run. The present study assesses these competing claims by investigating secondary PTG in relation to the somatic domain. Specifically, this study investigates: (a) the asso…
World Assumptions Among Wives of Former Prisoners of War
This study examines (a) secondary trauma by evaluating World Assumptions (World Assumptions Scale scores) among spouses of Israeli ex-prisoners of war (ex-POWs) and (b) the relationship between the husbands' current posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and PTSD trajectory and the wives' world assumptions. Data were prospectively collected thrice for ex-POWs and comparable veterans, and twice for their spouses. This study extends current …
