Health literacy and health behaviors among college students in underdeveloped regions of China
Introduction College students are at a critical stage in the formation and development of their health concepts, lifestyles, and behaviors. Cultivating sound Health Literacy (HL) will have a profound impact on their future health. This study aims to examine the relationship between HL and health behaviors among college students in underdeveloped regions of China, and to propose recommendations and strategies for enhancing HL. Methods Based on the…
Relationships and agreement between Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test level 1 performance and laboratory VO 2max in adolescent male soccer players
YYIR1 is strongly associated with laboratory VO 2max but systematically underestimates it. Coaches may use YYIR1 distance to monitor intermittent endurance, while interpreting estimated VO 2max with caution. Larger, maturity-balanced samples are needed to clarify subgroup differences and improve youth-specific prediction accuracy
Height inequalities and change trends among Chinese children and adolescents aged 7–18 years from 1985 to 2019
There were obvious height inequalities in China. Although the urbanrural differences have decreased, the height differences among regions at different economic levels have gradually increased, especially in rural areas. These differences should be taken seriously and relevant policies should be formulated to reduce height inequalities for children and adolescents in different regions.
Eco-compensation policy to promote households’ behavior for comprehensive utilization of crop straw
The comprehensive utilization of crop straw is critical to green development of agriculture, as it mitigates open-field burning pollution while enhancing biomass energy production. Eco-compensation policy plays a crucial role in promoting straw utilization. However, is there a sustained pattern of comprehensive utilization of crop straw by households following the termination of the eco-compensation policy? In this paper, we used survey data from…
Population threshold for the evolution towards an advanced economy in Chinese cities
Although the problems created by exceeding Earth’s carrying capacity are real, a too-small population also creates problems. The convergence of a nation’s population into small areas (i.e., cities) via processes such as urbanization can accelerate the evolution of a more advanced economy by promoting new divisions of labor and the evolution of new industries. The degree to which population density contributes to this evolution remains unclear. To…
Geographic poverty caused by distance to market
Poverty is a key challenge to socioeconomic development globally. However, the degree to which distance from a market contributes to poverty remains unclear. To provide insights into this relationship, we quantified the relationships between distance from markets and the per capita income of rural and urban people in China based on data from 29 provinces and 2651 counties. Our results illustrate the existence of a “geographical curse”; that is, a…
Secular trends in motor abilities of Xinjiang children and adolescents aged 7–18 years from 1985 to 2019
Objective: To assessment the secular trend in physical fitness of children and adolescents aged 7-18 years in Xinjiang from 1985 to 2019. Method: The data are derived from test scores of Xinjiang Chinese children and adolescents aged 7-18 years by the China National Student Health Monitoring Centre National Student Physical Fitness Monitoring in 1985, 1991, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2014, and 2019. The physical fitness indicators included speed, ca…
Evaluation of the Monitoring Capabilities of Remote Sensing Satellites for Maritime Moving Targets
Although an Automatic Identification System (AIS) can be used to monitor trajectories, it has become a reality for remote sensing satellite clusters to monitor maritime moving targets. The increasing demand for monitoring poses challenges for the construction of satellites, the monitoring capabilities of which urgently need to be evaluated. Conventional evaluation methods focus on the spatial characteristics of monitoring; however, the temporal c…
Urban green land use efficiency of resource-based cities in China
Does digital economy promote urban land green use efficiency
Association of SO2/CO exposure and greenness with high blood pressure in children and adolescents
Introduction We aimed to investigate the association between greenness around schools, long-term gaseous air pollution exposure (SO 2 and CO), and blood pressure in children and adolescents. Methods From 2006 to 2018, a total of 219,956 Chinese children and adolescents aged 7–17 years in Beijing and Zhongshan were included in this longitudinal study. Annual average concentrations of SO 2 and CO and the mean values of normalized difference vegetat…
The sustainability of urbanized land
Win–win path for ecological restoration
Ecosystem degradation is a major cause of poverty, and poverty further aggravates ecosystem degradation through a feedback known as the 'poverty trap' that can prevent sustainable socioeconomic development in ecologically fragile areas. However, most ecological restoration programmes have failed to improve the lives of residents of the targeted areas because planners failed to understand the driving forces behind the poverty trap. Finding the thr…
Regional differences in the factors that affect vegetation cover in China
Decreasing vegetation cover leads to serious environmental problems, with negative impacts on human health and socioeconomic development. In recent years, these problems have seriously threatened human societies around the world. Although there have been many studies of urbanization's impacts on natural land cover, ecosystem health, and biodiversity, the effects of spatial variation of human factors and their interaction with climate factors are …
Mental Health in Persons With Chronic Myeloid Leukemia During the Sars-CoV-2 Pandemic
Mental health problems in the general population have been reported during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic; however, there were rare data in persons with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Therefore, we performed a cross-sectional study on mental health evaluated using the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9; depression), the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7; anxiety), and the 22-item Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R; distress), includi…

Assessment of medium and small river health based on macroinvertebrates habitat suitability curves
The health of medium and small river ecosystems is threatened by increasing hydropower development and human activities. How to properly diagnose rivers has become a global concern. As a well-accepted theory, the aquatic organism density can be an indicator of river health. A new river health assessment method based on macroinvertebrates habitat suitability curves (M-HSC) was proposed. In this study, the health of Qiaobian River (QBR), a tributar…
Modeling Multivariate Volatilities via Latent Common Factors
Volatility, represented in the form of conditional heteroscedasticity, plays an important role in controlling and forecasting risks in various financial operations including asset pricing, portfolio allocation, and hedging futures. However, modeling and forecasting multi-dimensional conditional heteroscedasticity are technically challenging. As the volatilities of many financial assets are often driven by a few common and latent factors, we propo…
