Using smartphone technology to reduce health impacts from atmospheric environmental hazards
Background: Global environmental change is exacerbating human vulnerability to adverse atmospheric conditions including air pollution, aeroallergens such as pollen, and extreme weather events. São Tomé and Príncipe
São Tomé and Príncipe are two small oceanic islands in the Gulf of Guinea. Both are mountainous and deeply eroded by high rainfall. Undisturbed primary rain forest remains in the wettest areas of the south-west of each island on steep slopes in virtually inaccessible terrain. Although they have low overall biotic diversity relative to continental Africa, the islands harbour numerous endemic species as a result of their isolation: 109 plants, 26 b…

Economic Organization and Policies in the Middle Ages
The publication of this volume completes, in its first edition, the medieval portion of the Cambridge Economic History, as projected some thirty years ago. Its appearance, therefore, adds to the debt which students of medieval economy already owe to the editors and writers of this distinguished series. How greatly the debt will be increased, no single reviewer can be expert enough to say. On the whole the new volume seems worthy to stand with its…

A Tuscan Monastic Lordship in the Later Middle Ages
The rural economy of late medieval Italy displays many features and obeys many tendencies common to western Europe at the time. In the age of fully developed communes and nascent despotism it is customary to emphasise that peasant unfreedom and dependent tenure had as good as disappeared, demesne farming and labour services were forgotten, and seigneurial rights diminished or suppressed; where these things have been discovered to persist they are…
