  • Optimization of Ecological Security Pattern in a Mining City: Multi‐Scenario Comparison of Ecological Restoration

Open Access•Danfei Zhong, Jian Peng et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2026

During the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, the rapid emergence of the post‐mining era has enhanced the urgency of ecological restoration in mining areas, making it a critical global priority. Ecological security pattern (ESP), a cost‐effective approach for ecological restoration, has seen limited comparative studies on multi‐scenario ecological restoration strategies across its optimization. To fill this gap, Datong, a typical min…

Open Access•Zhenyu Wang, Yuhao Gong et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2026

The Dongting Lake Basin, a critical wetland ecosystem in the middle Yangtze River, has experienced pronounced changes in ecosystem service (ES) provision and consumption under the combined stresses of rapid urbanization and hydrological shifts. However, the understanding of the spatiotemporal evolution and driving mechanisms of supply–demand‐based ecosystem service bundles in river–lake connected systems remains insufficient. Selecting the years …

Open Access•Yuan Wang, Han Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2024

An urban heat island (UHI) refers to a metropolitan area significantly warmer than its rural surroundings. Accurately quantifying UHI intensity (UHII) relies on selecting appropriate rural areas, which lack a universal definition. A crucial aspect in UHII quantification is considering the spatial extent of the UHI effect, known as its footprints (UHIFP). Here, we propose a framework to jointly estimate both UHII and UHIFP, integrating the latter …

  • Smaller particular matter, larger risk of female lung cancer incidence? Evidence from 436 Chinese counties

Open Access•Huagui Guo, Xin Li et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

The effect on the incidence rate of female lung cancer was greater for PM 1 , followed by PM 2.5 and PM 10 . There were positive modifying roles of urban-rural division on the effects of three particular matters. The finding supports the argument that finer particular matters are more harmful to human health, and also highlights the great significance to develop guidelines for PM 1 control and prevention in Chinese setting

  • Evaluation for sustainable land use in coastal areas: A landscape ecological prospect

Jian Peng, Yanglin Wang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2006

Evaluation of sustainability is the core of research on sustainable land use. To a certain extent, traditional social, economic and ecological evaluation for sustainable land use can be regarded as an appraisal on the temporal scale without evaluation of spatial patterns. Landscape ecology can help to realize spatial evaluation for sustainable land use. In this paper, we construct landscape ecological indicators for evaluating sustainable coastal…

Research on land-use and land-cover change, with associated effects on the ecoenvironment, is a key to understanding global change. The concept of 'ecosystem services' is also a hot issue in ecology and ecological economics. In this study, ecosystem service values are used to assess the ecological values of corresponding land-use types, so as to evaluate the ecological effects of regional land-use change. China's southwest agricultural landscape …
