Mission‐oriented innovation has emerged as a novel paradigm for tackling pressing societal and environmental challenges. Grounded in the theory of the entrepreneurial state, this study contends that governments fulfil various ‘entrepreneurial functions’—acting as directional leader, market shaper, standard setter, fund provider, risk‐taker, and model leader. This study is based on 36,052 policy application instruments implemented by provincial go…

  • Spatial Inequality and Shared Accessibility in the Fifteen-Minute Community Life Circle

Yue Li, Li Yue et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of the American…•2026•References: 80

The fifteen-minute community life circle (15-MCLC) paradigm has emerged as a pivotal policy instrument for sustainable urban development through optimized public facility allocation. Existing studies, however, focus mainly on community boundaries and accessibility, frequently neglecting the critical issue of cross-community facility sharing, which hinders effective resource integration. To address this gap, we propose a comprehensive 15-MCLC fram…

  • Attribution analysis of urban social resilience differences under rainstorm disaster impact

Open Access•Tianshun Gu, Hongbo Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2025

With the frequent occurrence of extreme rainstorms in global cities, understanding differences in social resilience is crucial for constructing climate-adaptive communities. However, quantitatively analyzing the compound effects and interactions of social resilience determinants remains challenging. Here, we developed an advanced interpretable spatial machine learning framework to analyze social resilience across 2,221 blocks in Zhengzhou City, C…

  • Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

HAN Shangfeng, Li Yue et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2018

We investigated a cohort of 8,969 singleton live births in Lanzhou, China during 2010-2012. Using inverse distance weighting, maternal exposures to particulate matter with diameter ≤10 μm (PM 10 ), nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ), and sulfur dioxide (SO 2 ) were estimated as a combination of monito…

  • Addressing Inequality in South Asia

Open Access•Martin Rama, Pradeep Mitra et al.•BOOK•Addressing inequality in South Asia•2014

Inequality in South Asia appears to be moderate when looking at standard indicators such as the Gini index, which are based on consumption expenditures per capita. But other pieces of evidence reveal enormous gaps, from extravagant wealth at one end to lack of access to the most basic services at the other. Which prompts the question: How bad is inequality in South Asia? And why would that matter? This book takes a comprehensive look at the exten…

  • Conversational Management and Involvement in Chinese-English Business Talk

Li Wei, Zhu Hua et al.•ARTICLE•Language and Intercultural…•2001•Cited by: 2

Culturally-based differences in conversational style often result in miscommunication in intercultural transactions. Such miscommunication becomes more acute in professional contexts (e.g. business negotiations) when the interacting parties are using the same linguistic code but not the same cultural style. Using the analytic framework provided by Conversation Analysis (CA), this paper examines one sequence of interaction during the closing stage…
