  • Follow-up surveys for census estimates of maternal mortality: Experiences from Bolivia and Mozambique

    Open Access•Ralph Hakkert•ARTICLE•Journal of Population Research•2011•Cited by: 1

  • Las consecuencias demográficas de la austeridad en América Latina: Aspectos Metodológicos

    Open Access•Ralph Hakkert•ARTICLE•Estudios Demográficos y Urbanos•1991•References: 1

  • Life table transformations and inequality measures: Some noteworthy formal relationships

    Open Access•Ralph Hakkert•ARTICLE•Demography•1987•Cited by: 6•References: 14

The conventional entropy expresses how proportional age-specific mortality changes affect the life expectancy. It may also be interpreted as an inequality measure of ages at death in the stationary population. Other transformations describing other age patterns of mortality change yield alternative generalized entropies. Most are also inequality measures Theils index is the generalized entropy of the exponential accelerated failure time model whe…

  • Comment on ‘The random variation in rates based on total enumeration of events’ by J. R. Udry, C. Teddlie, C. M. Suchindran

    Roger C Avery, Ralph Hakkert•ARTICLE•Population Studies•1981

This comment builds on the work of Udry et al., developing a model of random variation of vital rates in small geographical areas. The model is based on the division of the variance of vital rates into three parts; that which would occur in a homogenous population; that due to population heterogeneity; and that due to yearly fluctuations in the underlying basis for the mean value of the probability of the vital event in question. Contrary to Udry…
