  • Internationally Linked Firms and Productivity in Pakistan: A Look at the Top End of the Distribution

Open Access•Stefania Lovo, Gonzalo Varela•ARTICLE•The Journal of Development Studies•2022

This paper examines productivity drivers for Pakistani publicly listed firms over 2012–17, with a focus on policy and outcome measures of integration in upstream sectors. We find that increased import duties on intermediates, and reduced FDI in upstream services, are associated with reduction in productivities downstream. Gains from lower input tariffs accrue to firms that cannot secure duty exemptions — domestic-oriented firms and smaller export…

  • Deep Trade Agreements and Domestic Institutions in the Americas

    Open Access•Laura Gómez-Mera, Laura Gómez‐mera et al.•ARTICLE•Latin American Research Review•2021

In the Americas, the proliferation of trade agreements with countries from within and beyond the region have resulted in a “spaghetti bowl” of overlapping rules and regulations, some of which address behind-the-border issues such as investment, competition, labor, and environmental standards. Earlier research has linked trade agreements to increased foreign…

    Open Access•Gonzalo Varela•ARTICLE•Secuencia•1995

    Open Access•Gonzalo Varela•ARTICLE•Secuencia•1990
