  • Effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a physical activity loyalty scheme for behaviour change maintenance

Open Access•Ruth F Hunter, Sarah Brennan et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016

    ISRCTN17975376 (Registered 19/09/2014)

  • Prescribing for weight loss in primary care

Lynsey Patterson, Clair C Patterson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2013•References: 10

BACKGROUND: Taking antiobesity medication can be a cost effective way to lose weight. Uptake is determined in part by a General Practitioner's decision to prescribe weight loss medication and, in part, by patient preference. It is probable that the latter may indicate a patient's readiness to lose weight. METHODS: Analysis of cross-sectional data (from February 2003 to March 2011) from a population based prescribing database (∼1.75 million people…

  • Is caring associated with an increased risk of mortality? A longitudinal study

    Open Access•Dermot O’reilly, Dermot O''Reilly et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2008•Cited by: 36•References: 37

  • Greenland Ice Evidence of Hemispheric Lead Pollution Two Millennia Ago by Greek and Roman Civilizations

    Open Access•Sungmin Hong, Jean-Pierre Candelone et al.•ARTICLE•Science•1994

Analysis of the Greenland ice core covering the period from 3000 to 500 years ago—the Greek, Roman, Medieval and Renaissance times—shows that lead is present at concentrations four times as great as natural values from about 2500 to 1700 years ago (500 B.C. to 300 A.D.). These results show that Greek and Roman lead and silver mining and smelting activities polluted the middle troposphere of the Northern Hemisphere on a hemispheric scale two mille…

  • Colorectal cancer in the north and south of Ireland 1950-1984

    Frank Kee, C Patterson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1990•Cited by: 1•References: 15

STUDY OBJECTIVE--Northern Ireland has the highest standardised mortality ratios for colon cancer in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland has some of the highest mortality rates for cancer in the world. The aim of the study therefore was to investigate trends in colorectal cancer in the north and south of Ireland over the period 1950 to 1984. DESIGN--The study was a cohort analysis of deaths from colorectal cancer for ages 35-74 years by…

  • The circumvention of the natural biopurification of calcium along nutrient pathways by atmospheric inputs of industrial lead

Open Access•Robert W Elias, Yoshimitsu Hirao et al.•ARTICLE•Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta•1982

  • Native Copper, Silver, and Gold Accessible to Early Metallurgists

    Open Access•Clair C Patterson•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1971•Cited by: 19•References: 33

The weathered zones of ore deposits, which no longer exist, are reconstructed by inference to provide estimates of relative abundances of usable nuggets of native copper, silver, and gold in ancient times. New analyses and selected data from the literature summarize metallic impurities in native copper, silver, gold, and lead and in the oxidized copper minerals, oxide, silicate, carbonate, chloride, and sulfate, together with impurities in lead c…
