Correlates of Rural Naloxone Possession Among People Who Use Drugs
Barriers to accessing medications for opioid use disorder among rural individuals
Access barriers vary by MOUD type for rural individuals with OUD. Compared to sublingual buprenorphine, methadone access was hindered more by transportation difficulties, while injectable long-acting buprenorphine was hindered more by affordability and finding a doctor or program. These barriers highlight the need to de-regulate and expand locations for methadone access and prescribing, and to improve affordability and prescriber uptake of newer …
Learning Together for and with the Martuwarra Fitzroy River
Co-production across scientific and Indigenous knowledge systems has become a cornerstone of research to enhance knowledge, practice, ethics, and foster sustainability transformations. However, the profound differences in world views and the complex and contested histories of nation-state colonisation on Indigenous territories, highlight both opportunities and risks for Indigenous people when engaging with knowledge co-production. This paper inve…

Unintentional drowning
Psychotropic drugs alone or in association with alcohol may be an overlooked risk factor in drowning, due to their effects on psychomotor function and cognition. Future studies should also address other mechanisms-for instance drug-induced long-QT syndrome-by which drugs may contribute to drowning

African and Caribbean adolescents in Britain
n Ethnic and national identities of 11-16-year-old British Africans and Caribbeans were examined by the Multigroup Ethnic Identity Measure (Phinney 1992) and Britishness questionnaire (Barrett 2000). Adolescents ranked ethnicity as more important than age, gender or nationality, stereotyped Caribbeans/Africans more positively than British, and derived more pride from ethnicity than nationality. England was the least popular answer to ?where are y…

It highlights profound changes in the European political landscape over the last three decades, including the fall of Communism; progressive European integration; territorial restructuring; public sector reforms at European, national, regional and local levels; changes in democratic participation, protest, elections, political …
Global Governance
As is customary, new journal editors open their term of office with statement of visions and aspirations for the journal that they have undertaken to promote. The following statement sets out the aims, conceptions, and practices that the incoming editorial team brings to Global Governance. Before setting out our own stall, however, we must acknowledge and applaud the excellent work of our predecessors. In just ten years, the initial two editorial…

He now directs the Centre for Global Studies at the University of Victoria, is a Senior Fellow at the Liu Centre at UBC, and is a member of the Commission on Globalization.WHEN G7/8 LEADERS LAST MET IN CANADA in 1995, they remarked how wonderful it was to be in Halifax where they could walk the streets among friendly crowds. Governance and Policy in a Multicentric World
Three dimensions of multiple centres of power and their corresponding implications for policy and governance are examined. While there has been a proliferation in the number of actors participating in governance and the policy processes, this development is not entirely a new phenomenon. The state is in constant transformation, adapting to the various challenges it faces. It is wrong to argue that the state is in retreat or that it is not as powe…

The Functional Properties of the Referendum
This article outlines a way in which the wide range of experience of the referendum in Western Europe can be brought together by means of a “functional” approach. Two important perspectives appear to be: the degree of “control” exercised by the political authorities and the general “hegemonic effect” as seen in the consequences of the referendum. The variations that are possible, both in control and effect, provide the basis for a matrix of funct…

A System Perspective on Party System Change
Discussions of party system change may be unsatisfactory if insufficient attention is given to the defining properties of a system. A number of dimensions have to be considered, but - as with `social cleavages' - there can be disagreement as to whether a truly constitutive element is involved. In addition, it is necessary to distinguish the various degrees of change that are possible, and in this respect a study of the process of change is essent…

West Germany and the Politics of Centrality
WHEN MANY COUNTRIES IN WESTERN EUROPE ARE EXPERIENCING A flux or even a teeming confusion in their party systems, West Germany stands out as a case of almost aberrant cohesion. The ageold yearning for ‘the German synthesis’ finds its apparent modern fulfilment in the party system. The uncomfortable extremes of left and right have for long hovered around virtual electoral extinction, and the rise of new movements – such as forms of neo-Poujadism i…

The Changing West German Party System
Dramatic Change is Hardly a Feature of West German politics. The signals are usually visible well in advance — but gradual change also means that the wider significance of particular developments may be overlooked. A cursory examination of the political scene in the wake of the election held in January 1987 may fail to reveal much that is new since the success of the Christian Democrats in 1983. Thus, despite the sharp fall in the CDU vote, the c…

The Referendum and Political Change
AS A WAY OF REACHING IMPORTANT POLITICAL DECISIONS, THE referendum is usually regarded as a clumsy and unsatisfactory instrument and quite unimportant as a contribution to political democracy. The German Volkspartei and the Career of the Catch-All Concept
Against all apparent odds, the party system that emerged in Western Germany after 1945 avoided the fateful Zersplitterung, the fragmentation of parties and interests, which had contributed to the downfall of the Weimar Republic. The former centrifugal style of politics was abandoned, but the new republic also moved swiftly and decisively away from a multi-party system towards a stable form of majoritarian government. The almost dramatic alteratio…
