Access and Accessibility in Domestic and Family Violence Services for Women With Disabilities: Widening the Lens
Women with disabilities experiencing violence can face challenges accessing domestic and family violence (DFV) services. Our research explored how these services understood and operationalized access for women with disabilities. In this article, we use Levesque, Harris, and Russell's access framework to show how to be accessible to women with disabilities, and DFV services can widen the lens of access and accessibility to respond to women's own p…
Challenges of Bystander Intervention in Male-Dominated Professional Sport: Lessons From the Australian Football League
Programs aimed at preventing violence against women have increasingly adopted bystander approaches, yet large gaps remain in our knowledge about what drives bystanders to act or not, particularly in settings where there is an increased risk of violence against women occurring. This article contributes to this gap by examining data from research with professional male athletes from the Australian Football League. Drawing from a mixed methods appro…
The Politics of Health Services Research: Health Professionals as Hired Hands in a Commissioned Research Project in England

Sociologies of work predict lack of engagement in the research tasks by subordinated groups of workers. We examine the role of midwives in researching ante-natal screening for sickle cell …
Critical realism, agency and sickle cell: Case Studies of Young People With Sickle Cell Disorder at School
Critical realism suggests that historical structures may operate as underlying generative mechanisms but not always be activated. This explains the near-absence of references to racism by black students with sickle cell disorder (SCD). Through case studies we show how latent mechanisms are not activated, and how social actors come to develop corporate agency. Themes discussed include: wider/historical racisms (carers' own experiences of overt rac…
