Research Summary This study examined the DNA forensic testing outcomes from 894 previously untested sexual assault kits (SAKs) from Detroit, Michigan. At issue was how many of these SAKs would produce DNA profiles eligible for upload into CODIS (Combined DNA Index System), the national forensic DNA database maintained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and then how many would produce CODIS hits (DNA matches) to other crimes. Operationalizing Design Fiction with Anticipatory Ethnography
Transmuting the entanglement of situations, contexts, artifacts and people, designers mediate the relationship between 'what could be' and 'what is'. All design, then, has an implicit relationship with the future. Here we consider design ethnography, and design fiction. We cast these two approaches, and the design endeavor itself, as forward-looking processes. Exploring the means by which design ethnography and design fiction derive their value reveals the potential for a mutually beneficial symbiosis. This paper formulates a theory to identify at risk minority/protected class employees. The theory suggest that there are minorities with layered minority discrimination risk, due to the presence of multiple additive factors, which can result in higher eccentricity quotients, and lower idiosyncrasy credit, which in turn results in a more biased view of the employee in terms of lower than average competence.
