This article deals with continuity and change in the Afro-Caribbean family of Curacao in the twentieth century. In the 1940s and 1950s, with full employment for men and after a multinational company offered financial benefits for legally married workers and their families, marriage rates increased and the percentage of children born to unmarried mothers [1] decreased substantially.
