    This article considers how cost-benefit analyses of farm animal policy would be altered if animal interests were to be directly included in the computations. Currently, animals lack standing, their preferences for improved living conditions are not considered in the calculation of costs or benefits of farm policies.   • Athens or London? The Parthenon Marbles and economic efficiency

    In the early part of the 19th century sculptures on the Parthenon in Athens were removed under the direction of the Earl of Elgin, then the British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, which at the time included Greece. The sculptures were brought to Britain, finding their way to the custody of the British Museum in London in 1816, where they are viewed by millions of visitors annually.     In the past fifteen years the regulatory systems surrounding the traditional vices of alcohol, tobacco, and gambling have been extensively overhauled in Russia, generally in the direction of tighter control. This article surveys these reforms and assesses their impact.
