  • Thought experiments

    Open Access•Dov Eden•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•2023

This is a masterful piece of work. It demonstrates exceptional scholarship. It is exquisitely written. The literature review is comprehensive. It ranges widely across the literature in many social science disciplines and beyond, to the likes of Newton and Einstein. It is innovative, certainly for OB. It provides a typology and guidelines for moving through the stages of conducting thought experiments. It is persuasive. I, for one, have rarely eve…

  • Field Experiments in Organizations

    Dov Eden•ARTICLE•Annual Review of Organizational…•2017

Field experimentation, although rare, is the sterling-gold standard of organizational research methods. It yields the best internally valid and generalizable findings compared to more fallible methods. Reviewers in many psychology specialties, including organizational psychology, synthesize largely nonexperimental research, warn of causal ambiguity, and call for experimental replication. These calls go mostly unheeded. Practical application is a …

  • Thriving in a self‐made niche

    Open Access•Dov Eden•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•2008•Citada por: 1

Granting that organizational behavior may be a field with a weak paradigm, this can be viewed as an advantage rather than as a nemesis that makes success in an academic career nearly impossible for neophytes to the field. The weak paradigm allows many niches to emerge. A niche is an identifiable, circumscribed area of scholarly inquiry that can provide a good match with the individual's qualifications, interests, and career aspirations. Within th…

  • General self‐efficacy and self‐esteem

    Open Access•Gilad Chen, Stanley M Gully et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•2004•Citada por: 22•Referencias: 4

To test whether general self‐efficacy and self‐esteem relate differently to motivational and affective constructs, we collected data from samples in academic and work settings. Results suggest that general self‐efficacy is more highly related to motivational variables than is self‐esteem, whereas self‐esteem is more highly related to affective variables than is general self‐efficacy, as hypothesized. Furthermore, results support the notion that m…

  • Impact of Transformational Leadership on Follower Development and Performance

Tom Dvir, Dov Eden et al.•ARTICLE•Academy of Management Journal•2002

In a longitudinal, randomized field experiment, we tested the impact of transformational leadership, enhanced hy training, on follower development and performance. Experimental group leaders received transformational leadership training, and control group leaders, eclectic leadership training. The sample included 54 military leaders, their 90 direct followers, and 724 indirect followers. Results indicated the leaders in the experimental group had…

  • Validation of a New General Self-Efficacy Scale

Open Access•Gilad Chen, Stanley M Gully et al.•ARTICLE•Organizational Research Methods•2001

Researchers have suggested that general self-efficacy (GSE) can substantially contribute to organizational theory, research, and practice. Unfortunately, the limited construct validity work conducted on commonly used GSE measures has highlighted such potential problems as low content validity and multidimensionality. The authors developed a new GSE (NGSE) scale and compared its psychometric properties and validity to that of the Sherer et al. Gen…

  • Relief from job stressors and burnout

Dalia Etzion, Dov Eden et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Applied Psychology•1998

To reveal the ameliorative impact of being away from job stressors on burnout, we compared 81 men who were called for active reserve service with 81 matched controls in the same company who were not called during the same period. Each reservist and his control completed questionnaires shortly before the reservist left work for a stint of service and immediately on his return. Analysis of variance detected a significant decline in job stress and b…

  • Self-efficacy training to speed reemployment

Dov Eden, Arie Aviram•ARTICLE•Journal of Applied Psychology•1993

The impact of training designed to boost general self-efficacy (GSE) on job-search activity and on reemployment was assessed among 66 persons unemployed for up to 18 weeks. Randomly assigned experimental participants attended 8 behavioral-modeling workshop sessions over 2 1/2 weeks. The manipulation check showed that training boosted GSE as intended. The workshop also increased job-search activity, confirming the hypothesis that raising GSE motiv…

  • Interpersonal Expectations

Open Access•Peter Blanck, Robert Rosenthal et al.•BOOK•Interpersonal Expectations•1993

This 1993 volume brings together critical analysis of the phenomenon called interpersonal expectation - a sub-area of social psychology that studies how the expectations of one person affects the behavior of another in an interactive setting. The book is divided into three major sections: the first examines real-world applications of research on interpersonal expectations, such as in the courtroom, classroom, and operating room; the second consid…

  • Effects of population changes on psychological and physiological strain in kibbutz communities

Open Access•Arie Shirom, Dov Eden et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Community…•1981•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 20

The present study was directed toward determining the health implications of population policies followed by collective rural communities (kibbutzim) in Israel. It was hypothesized that, controlling for kibbutz longevity, higher rates of out-migration and/or lower rates of in-migration and population growth are associated with subsequent increases in psychological and physiological strain among kibbutz members. The hypothesis was tested by interr…
