  • Cultural Incentive Learning

Open Access•F Rigoli, Jack J Lennon et al.•ARTICLE•Evolutionary Anthropology Issues…•2025

Although research on human values is abundant, it has so far neglected a crucial question: what are the psychological mechanisms whereby culture shapes people's values? To address this, the manuscript introduces a framework examining how culture shapes the acquisition of values, a process referred to as cultural incentive learning . • The Gods as Latent Causes

    Open Access•F Rigoli, Jack J Lennon et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for the…•2024•References: 13

  • Sarah E. Bond. Trade and Taboo

Jack J Lennon, Jack Lennon•ARTICLE•The American Historical Review•2018

Sarah E. Bond’s new monograph, Trade and Taboo, is a welcome addition to the growing body of literature dealing with those professionals and tradesmen who performed important roles within Roman society but who, on the whole, received scorn rather than gratitude from those members of Rome’s elite who considered themselves above such petty or unpleasant tasks. Over the course of five chapters, Bond examines the duties and social positions of a vari…

    Open Access•Jack J Lennon, Jack Lennon•ARTICLE•The Classical Quarterly•2015•References: 13

The phrase sacra mensae appears in only a select number of instances from the first century a.d. onwards. This paper seeks to demonstrate that references to sacra mensae are not coincidental, and that they were employed deliberately by authors such as Valerius Maximus and, after him, Quintilian, Tacitus and Seneca, based on an assumed shared understanding of their significance on the part of Roman audiences. Although it appears across a variety o…
