Enhanced Integration of Multi-Disciplinary Inputs into a Narrative of an Ancient Migration, Based on Greater Chronological Precision Provided by a Novel Y-DNA Clock and Phylogenetic Branching
An accurate DNA clock can strengthen cross-disciplinary inputs in the study of genealogies and ancient migrations. New Y-chromosome sequence data gathered from a Lotli Pai Kaundinya (LPK) Brahmin cohort whose staged migration from the Pontic Steppe to the West Coast of India was previously reported, are used here to generate a more precise DNA clock. The formula distinguishes Y-mutation rates for transitions and transversions and corrects for dro…
Fructose and uric acid as drivers of a hyperactive foraging response
A Pilot Study to Assess Inhalation Exposures among Sugarcane Workers in Guatemala
Sugarcane workers are exposed to high concentrations of particulate matter. Future studies should investigate the potential role of silica, heavy metals, and agrochemicals in the etiology of chronic kidney disease in this population
Chronic kidney disease of non-traditional origin in Mesoamerica
The death toll of the epidemic of chronic kidney disease of nontraditional origin (CKDnt) in Mesoamerica runs into the tens of thousands, affecting mostly young men. There is no consensus on the etiology. Anecdotal evidence from the 1990s pointed to work in sugarcane; pesticides and heat stress were suspected. Subsequent population-based surveys supported an occupational origin with overall high male-female ratios in high-risk lowlands, but small…
Fructose, uricase, and the Back‐to‐Africa hypothesis
In the Middle Miocene (approximately 17 to 12 Ma) at least two radiations of fossil apes from East Africa into Eurasia occurred, and, while controversial, some paleoanthropological studies suggest that one of the Eurasian lineages may have returned to Africa to evolve into humans and the African apes. Here, we present a novel argument supporting this hypothesis. Specifically, the global cooling that occurred in the middle Miocene rendered hominoi…
The Seven Champions of Christendom (1596/7) Amadis de Gaule The English Romance in Time
Zagranichnaia Agentura
Anti-tsarist political emigration, of sufficient size to be a recognized problem, dates from the 1870s, when the struggle against the autocracy was being conducted by the Party of the People's Will (Narodnaia Volia) through an active campaign of terror against Russian officials. During the 1870s, however, political emigres were not given serious attention by the regime, and the Russian police operated abroad only to a very limited extent. Foreign…
