Background Patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) is integral to health research. Reporting of PPIE methods and impact is becoming increasingly common in health research. However, reporting on PPIE in studies using large, routinely collected electronic health record data sets is less common. • Blame the War, Not the Troops

Alex Adams•ARTICLE•Journal of War and Culture Studies•2022•Referências: 9

The 2014 feature film Good Kill is a case study of how hegemonic popular culture can defang and absorb critiques of military discourse. Although this film articulates a limited critique of drone warfare, its major task is to normalize drone warfare in three ways. First, it presents a romanticized view of the ‘clean’ military capabilities of drone weaponry. Second, the film shows ordinary soldiers as morally good actors who are forced to execute o…

In the 2008 comedy film Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, the two protagonists are falsely imprisoned in the American prison camp at Guantanamo Bay. During their brief stay, they discover that the prisoners’ biggest fear is a “cock meat sandwich”: forced fellatio, which the prisoners nonetheless perform with servile relish. • Mixing Survey Modes and Its Implications

Alex Adams, Alex N Adams et al.•BOOK•Oxford Handbook of Polling and…•2017

Mixed mode surveys are defined as surveys that involve mixtures of different contact and response modes. • The sweet tang of rape

    Open Access•Alex Adams•ARTICLE•Feminist Theory•2017•Referências: 19

Little scholarly attention has been paid to the torture scenes in Ian Fleming's canon of Bond novels and short stories (1953-1966), despite the fact that they represent some of the most potent sites of the negotiations of masculinity, nationhood, violence and the body for which Fleming's texts are critically renowned. • Political Torture in Popular Culture

    Alex Adams•BOOK•Political Torture in Popular…•2016

Political Torture in Popular Culture argues that the literary, filmic, and popular cultural representation of political torture has been one of the defining dimensions of the torture debate that has taken place in the course of the post-9/11 global war on terrorism. The book argues that cultural representations provide a vital arena in which political meaning is generated, negotiated, and contested. Adams explores whether liberal democracies can …

    Open Access•Lonna Rae Atkeson, Alex Adams et al.•ARTICLE•Political Analysis•2014•Citada por: 30•Referências: 46

We examine the quality of two probability-based polls, one interviewer administered (telephone) and one self-administered (Internet and mail mixed mode survey). The polls use the same sampling frame (registered voters) and the same questions. First, we examine the representativeness of both surveys using information known about the population, and although we find important differences between the two in terms of sampling and nonresponse bias, we…
