  • Measuring Intimate Partner Violence in Sexual and Gender Minority Populations

Open Access•Aaron Palachi, Vesna Beljo et al.•ARTICLE•Trauma Violence & Abuse•2026

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant public and mental health concern, yet much of its research and measurement have been developed through a cisgender, heterosexual lens. Sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations experience IPV at rates equal to or higher than their cisgender, heterosexual counterparts and experience unique forms of abuse, including identity-based and transphobia-driven violence. However, the lack of IPV measures …

  • The Context and Leadership

Richard N Osborn, David Day et al.•BOOK•The Oxford Handbook of Leadership…•2013

This chapter explores the role context has played in leadership research over the last 100 years and offers a historical description of diverse perspectives and understandings of this interplay. To this end, it offers three approaches to studying context of leadership: (1) leadership as “nested” in hierarchy; or (2) leadership as “pervasive” in social processes; and (3) leadership as a combination of (1) and (2), or “hybrid” approaches. The autho…

This book makes me wonder why Australian \nhistorians have so readily agreed to \na history that starts at 1788. Perhaps the \nFirst Fleet's entertaining publishing enterprises \nhave been too seductive. Whereas \nhistorians may doubt that it is possible \nto write history without archival word \nmiddens, archaeologists doubt that one \ncan write without material discoveries. \nSources and methodological expertise \nhave created a major chasm bet…

  • Adolescents' and Mothers' Understanding of Children's Rights in the Home

    Open Access•Martin D Ruck, Michele Peterson-Badali et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research on Adolescence•2002•Cited by: 13•References: 4

Adolescents' and mothers' understanding of children's self‐determination and nurturance rights was examined in the context of the home. In individual interviews, 141 sixth, eighth, and tenth graders and their mothers responded to hypothetical vignettes in which a child story character wished to exercise a right that conflicted with parental practices. For each vignette, participants were asked to judge whether the story character should have the …

    David Day, David M Day•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•2002•References: 60

Restraining and secluding children living in residential facilities, though controversial, are commonly practiced by staff to manage disruptive behavior. In an effort to address some of the ongoing issues about the practice, this article examined the reasons for their use, their theoretical underpinnings, and extant empirical evidence in support of the theories. It is suggested that the current array of theories be updated and comprehensive resea…
