    J G Finkeldey, C R Dennison et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnicity in Criminal…•2023

This study examines the association between self-identified race and ethnicity, perceived skin color, and ever being unfairly stopped, searched, or questioned by police among a nationally representative sample of Whites, Blacks, Latinos, and other groups. • Race/Ethnicity, Perceived Skin Color, and the Likelihood of Adult Arrest

    Open Access•J G Finkeldey, Stephen Demuth•ARTICLE•Race and Justice•2021

Research has long-documented racial/ethnic disparities in criminal justice outcomes. However, despite race/ethnicity being a multidimensional social construct, prior research largely relies on self-identification measures, thereby disregarding research on skin tone stratification within-racial/ethnic groups. The current study extends beyond this by examining the relationship between race/ethnicity and arrest employing both self-identified race/et…

    Open Access•J G Finkeldey, C R Dennison•ARTICLE•Social Currents•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 19

Although research on the deleterious effects of parental incarceration is extensive, few studies have examined factors that may attenuate these consequences. This study uses data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health to examine the relationship between experiencing parental incarceration during childhood and depressive symptoms in young adulthood. Most importantly, it considers the degree to which this relationship is…

  • Adolescent Male Sports Participation and Violence in Emerging Adulthood: Examining Variation by Gender-Typed Behavior

    J G Finkeldey•ARTICLE•Deviant Behavior•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 59

Research on the association between sports participation and violence is mixed. Moreover, most studies that recognize some sport subcultures equate masculinity with violence have not included indicators of adherence to gender-typed behaviors. The current study used the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health to investigate the association between male adolescent sports participation and violence in young adulthood, as well as th…

  • Multilevel Effects of Parental Incarceration on Adult Children's Neighborhood Disadvantage

    Open Access•J G Finkeldey, C R Dennison•ARTICLE•Social Problems•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 70

Few studies have considered whether the consequences associated with parental incarceration extend beyond the children who experience the event, and whether the influence of parental incarceration varies by the context in which it occurs. This study investigates the multilevel consequences of parental incarceration by examining the relationship between individual- and neighborhood-level rates of parental, maternal, and paternal incarceration and …
