  • Adherence to an Injury Prevention Warm-Up Program in Children’s Soccer—A Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial

Open Access•Matias Hilska, Mari Leppänen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

This study examined the impact of high adherence to a neuromuscular training (NMT) warm-up on the risk of lower extremity (LE) injuries in children's soccer. Twenty U11-U14 youth clubs ( n = 92 teams, 1409 players) were randomized into intervention ( n = 44 teams) and control ( n = 48 teams) groups. The intervention group was advised to perform an NMT warm-up 2 to 3 times a week for 20 weeks. Team adherence, injuries, and exposure were registered…

  • Canadian High School Rugby Coaches Readiness for an Injury Prevention Strategy Implementation

Open Access•Isla Shill, Anu M Räisänen et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2021•References: 1

Background: Canadian rugby coach injury prevention beliefs and attitudes have not been studied, yet are key to informing injury prevention strategy implementation. Despite neuromuscular training (NMT) warm-up success in reducing injury, adoption of these programs is variable. Therefore, objectives of this study included (1) describing Canadian youth rugby coach injury prevention beliefs and attitudes and current warm-up practices and (2) evaluati…

  • Magnitude, Frequency, and Accumulation

Open Access•Lauren C Benson, Oluwatoyosi Owoeye et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2021

Overuse injuries are common in basketball. Wearable technology enables the workload to be monitored in sport settings. However, workload-injury models lack a biological basis both in the metrics recorded and how workload is accumulated. We introduce a new metric for monitoring workload: weighted jump height, where each jump height is weighted to represent the expected effect of the jump magnitude on damage to the tendon. The objectives of this st…

  • Warm-Ups and Coaches' Perceptions

    Open Access•Anu M Räisänen, Oluwatoyosi B A Owoeye et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 53

Introduction: Regular use of neuromuscular training (NMT) warm-up programs improves performance and prevents injuries. However, low level of adoption of these programs remains a problem. Understanding the current warm-ups in youth basketball and coaches' perceptions on injury prevention can guide the design of superior implementation strategies. This study describes warm-ups in youth basketball and coaches' injury prevention-related knowledge, at…

  • Sudomotor Function as a Tool for Cardiorespiratory Fitness Level Evaluation

Open Access•Anu M Räisänen, Anu Raisanen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2014

Physical inactivity is a modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular (CV) and metabolic disorders. VO2max is the best method to assess cardio-respiratory fitness level but it is poorly adopted in clinical practice. Sudomotor dysfunction may develop early in metabolic diseases. This study aimed at comparing established CV risk evaluation techniques with SUDOSCAN; a quick and non-invasive method to assess sudomotor function. A questionnaire was fille…
