Association of BMI ‐Adjusted Calf Circumference and Age‐Specific Cutoff Values With In‐Hospital Falls Among Older Adults
Verifying Family Authenticity in End‐of‐Life Care
In the terminal stage of illness, it is important to respect the patient's wishes, including those based on religious beliefs. However, in patients with advanced dementia, it can be difficult to confirm their wishes regarding end-of-life care. In such cases, healthcare professionals must often rely on family members or close acquaintances to infer the patient's previously expressed preferences. Nevertheless, if the family exploits the patient's c…
Nonlinear Associations Between Frailty and Medication Burden in Hospitalized Older Adults
A High Geriatric Depression Scale Score on Admission to Hospital Predicts a Worse Clinical Frailty Scale Score After Discharge
Is knee extension strength a key factor in badminton-specific agility among elite players
Significant inverse correlations were found between knee extension torque normalized to body mass for the leg opposite the racket-holding hand and badminton-specific agility at both 60 °/s and 180 °/s (males at 60 °/s: r s = -.619; 180 °/s: r s = -.579; females at 60 °/s: r s = -.445; 180 °/s: r s = -.446). In contrast, only the same-side leg at 60 °/s showed a significant inverse correlation (males: r s = -.413; females: r s = -.490). Overall, t…
Analyzing angular momentum in the takeoff phase of medium-hill ski jumping
This study shows that the appropriate AM CG value at takeoff was approximately 0.0391 s -1 . The study findings are expected to contribute to coaching with objective indicators
Acceptable range of timing error at bat-ball impact in baseball depends on the bat swing path
The average acceptable range of timing error was 9.36 ± 6.25 ms in time and 0.227 ± 0.163 m in distance. However, these ranges varied significantly (time: 2.48-30.40 ms; distance: 0.056-0.614 m) depending on the specific swing trajectory. Furthermore, our findings revealed that the acceptable range of timing error is not solely determined by a single swing characteristic but rather by the interplay of multiple factors, including the bat swing tra…
Estimating flight trajectories of breaking balls from four-seam fastballs
It is widely acknowledged that understanding the physical mechanics of the flight trajectories of four-seam fastballs and breaking balls is crucial for players and coaches to enhance pitching performance. The characteristics of the flight trajectories of four-seam fastballs and breaking balls have been revealed; however, the relationship between them has not been examined. Here, we show the characteristics of the flight trajectory of breaking bal…
