Technique and maximal skiing speed for youth cross-country skiing performance
Introduction Numerous researches concentrate on examining and preparing high-level male cross-country skiers, with a significant number of tests being conducted on roller skis. However, there is a scarcity of research on the testing and preparation of younger male and female athletes ranging from 10 to 16 years old. The main purpose of this research was to determine if certain cross-country (XC) skiing tests and maturity status are indicators of …
Determining the effect of one decade on fitness of elite Austrian youth soccer players using propensity score matching
Current trends in attacking strategies and increases in external workload have led to a need for fast and well-conditioned athletes in modern soccer. More recently, progressions in speed, coordination, power and endurance were found over a decade in elite Austrian youth players. However, possible confounders such as relative age, maturation, learning effects, and academy philosophy may have influenced these changes. The present study aimed to det…

Relationship of Changes in Physical Fitness and Anthropometric Characteristics over One Season, Biological Maturity Status and Injury Risk in Elite Youth Ski Racers
Alpine ski racing is a sport with a high risk of injuries. In order to contribute to the longitudinal career development of young athletes, prevention measures should be elaborated. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate prospectively the role of biological maturity status, and changes in anthropometric characteristics and physical fitness parameters over one season in elite youth ski racers younger than 15 years. Eighty-nine …
Did the Relative Age Effect Change Over a Decade in Elite Youth Ski Racing
The relative age effect (RAE) represents an asymmetry in birth quarter distribution, favoring athletes born early in the selection year and discriminating against late born athletes. The RAE was proven to be present in all age categories of national and international levels of alpine ski racing. Due to the existence of the RAE in all categories, it can be assumed that a selection error takes place favoring early born and early maturing youth ski …

Perceptual responses to infant crying
This report describes a perceptual study on the ability of mothers to perceptually differentiate cry samples elicited by three different stimulus situations. In some instances mothers were evaluating cries produced by their own infant; in other cases they judged those produced by infants with whom they were unfamiliar. The results of the investigation indicated that the eighteen mothers were generally unable to successfully match the cry samples …
