    Open Access•Therése Wissö, Margareta Back-Wiklund•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sociology•2021•Cited by: 3•References: 2

This article explores fathering practices among Syrian refugee families in Sweden. Syrian refugees provide an example of people who migrated because of a single major event: the war in Syria. The article examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on fathering practices. The Swedish COVID-19 strategy differed from those adopted in many other countries. Lockdowns were minimal and were not stringently enforced, based on the assumption that individ…

  • Are healthcare organizations healthy? Quality of life in healthcare work in Northern and Southern Europe

Open Access•Margareta Back-Wiklund, Maria Das Dores Horta Guerreiro et al.•ARTICLE•Sociologia Problemas e Práticas•2017

From a gender perspective, this article analyses the concept of “healthy organization” through the study of the “dual agenda” of healthcare organizations. Based in the EU funded project “Quality of Life in a Changing Europe”, which priviledged a multi-method approach, we analyse data from an extensive survey applied in eight European countries (Germany, Bulgaria, Finland, The Netherlands, Hungary, Portugal, United Kingdom and Sweden) and present …

  • The presence of the absent father

Mona Franséhn, Margareta Back-Wiklund•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social Work•2008•References: 2

This article builds upon results from an empirical study of nine cases where single mothers and their teenage sons have reflected on the relationship to the absent father and on his significance for the family. The results have led us to reflect further on how the construction of a father figure is shaped. The cases are selected from ongoing interventions from the social services. The child's age at the start of the father's absence varied from b…

  • Step-Fathering

    Open Access•Rosalind Edwards, Margareta Back-Wiklund et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Research Online•2002•Cited by: 1•References: 9

Step-fathering is becoming increasingly common in contemporary western societies, yet it has received little research attention from either social policy or sociological perspectives. In this article, we draw on our empirical studies of step-families in Britain and Sweden to argue that social context is important in shaping step-fathers' understandings of their position. Policy and legislation in these countries emphasise the importance of ascrib…

  • Moderna fäder mellan tradition och relation

    Open Access•Margareta Back-Wiklund, Birgitta Bergsten•ARTICLE•Sociologisk Forskning•1996

Modern fathers - between tradition and relationResearch on families simultaneously shows change and instability and duration and stability. Research on men as fathers bears the same contradiction, showing a man, who has got both traditional and more family and relation oriented characteristics. By asking men and women to tell about their life plans, their experiences of family life, gender and equality, we have tried to get hold of changes betwee…
