  • Ergogenic effects of a 10-day L-citrulline supplementation on time to exhaustion and cardiorespiratory and metabolic responses in healthy individuals: A double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled cr…

Open Access•Janis Schierbauer, Lyn Francis et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2025

Higher continuous doses of L-citrulline over 10 days do not increase TTE in healthy, moderately active individuals when compared with a placebo. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that L-citrulline does not offer an ergogenic benefit for endurance performance. However, future research may focus on female populations or exercise protocols that involve longer distances to simulate competition

  • Efficacy of a new treatment algorithm for capsulitis of the fingers in rock climbers

Open Access•Volker Rainer Schöffl, Volker Schöffl et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 49

BackgroundAlthough finger joint capsulitis has been described among the most frequent injuries in climbers, no clinical studies on treatment strategies and outcomes are available.Study designProspective case series study.MethodsBetween 2015 and 2018 we prospectively treated 50 patients (38 male, 12 female) with a total number of 69 independent finger joint capsulitis according to a clinic specific treatment regimen and evaluated the outcome retro…

  • Left Ventricular, Left Atrial and Right Ventricular Strain Modifications after Maximal Exercise in Elite Ski-Mountaineering Athletes: A Feasibility Speckle Tracking Study

Open Access•Paul Zimmermann, Max L Eckstein et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Eleven world elite ski-mountaineering (Ski-Mo) athletes were evaluated for pronounced echocardiographic physiological remodeling as the primary aim of our feasibility speckle tracking study. In this context, sports-related cardiac remodeling was analyzed by performing two-dimensional echocardiography, including speckle tracking analysis of the left atrium (LA), right ventricle (RV) and left ventricular (LV) global longitudinal strain (LV-GLS) at …

  • Improved Nocturnal Glycaemia and Reduced Insulin Use Following Clinical Exercise Trial Participation in Individuals With Type 1 Diabetes

Open Access•Olivia McCarthy, Emanuele Romeo et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

Aim: To explore the influence of clinical exercise trial participation on glycaemia and insulin therapy use in adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Research Design and Methods: This study involved a secondary analysis of data collected from 16 individuals with T1D who completed a randomized clinical trial consisting of 23-h in-patient phases with a 45-min evening bout of moderate intensity continuous exercise. Participants were switched from their …

  • Primary Care and Physical Literacy: A Non-Randomized Controlled Pilot Study to Combat the High Prevalence of Physically Inactive Adults in Austria

Open Access•Peter Holler, Johannes Jaunig et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

The multidimensional concept of physical literacy is fundamental for lifelong physical activity engagement. However, physical literacy-based interventions are in their infancy, especially among adults. Therefore, the purpose of this pilot study was to assess the association of a physical literacy-based intervention with changes in self-reported physical literacy among inactive adults. A non-randomized controlled study (2 × 2 design) was conducted…

  • Holistic physical exercise training improves physical literacy among physically inactive adults: A pilot intervention study

Open Access•Peter Holler, Johannes Jaunig et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

German Clinical Trials Register (DRKS), DRKS00013991 , date of registration: 09.02.2018, retrospectively registered
