Relative age effects in European soccer: Their Association With Contextual Factors, Impact on Youth National Teams' Performance, and Presence at the Senior Level
Introduction Soccer systems promote early identification and specialisation practices to satisfy short- and long-term goals—both from sporting performance and financial gains perspectives. In this context, players are (de)selected based on observed performance level and on their ability to conform to given organisational demands, leading to the proliferation of selection biases, such as relative age effects (RAEs), which research has shown to inf…
Leyenes: A gaze-based text entry method using linear smooth pursuit and target speed
Gaze-based writing is one of the most widespread eye tracking applications for human–computer interaction. While eye tracking communication has traditionally been employed as an assistive technology, declining prices of eye trackers now make it a feasible alternative to keyboards or touchscreens in many contexts (for example, the interaction with public info points). In this paper we propose Leyenes, a text entry method based on smooth pursuit, a…
Non-optimal processing of auxiliaries in L2 Italian: An eye-movement and acceptability judgment study
We investigated whether 68 non-native, tutored beginning L2 learners of Italian – with alphabetical and non-alphabetical L1s – discriminated between sentences containing target-like and non-target-like auxiliaries. We questioned whether learners’ choices could be informed by a grammatical rule, frequency of auxiliaries in the input or whether both grammatical and statistical knowledge could be eclipsed by processing difficulties. Eye-tracking and…
Geomorphology of marine and glacio-lacustrine terraces and raised shorelines in the northern sector of Península Brunswick, Patagonia, Straits of Magellan, Chile
This paper illustrates a detailed geomorphological map (scale 1:50,000) of the marine and transitional terraces (glacio-lacustrine to marine) and raised shorelines linked to Holocene glacio-eustasy and neo-tectonics in the northern area of the Brunswick Penìnsula (Chilean region of the Strait of Magellan). The mapped area is located in Tierra del Fuego between the Segunda Angostura and Seno Otway. This map is the result of geomorphological field …
Geomorphology of marine and transitional terraces and raised shorelines between Punta Paulo and Porvenir, Tierra del Fuego, Straits of Magellan – Chile
This paper presents a coastal geomorphology map of some of the Chilean region of the Straits of Magellan, and is based on a combined geomorphological and sedimentological approach applicable to a larger section of the coast. The mapped area is located in Tierra del Fuego between the Segunda Angostura of the Straits of Magellan and Bahía Inútil. A detailed geomorphological map was compiled at a scale of 1:50,000, describing a sequence of 4 marine …
