Advancing NFL win prediction: From Pythagorean formulas to machine learning algorithms
This study evaluates the predictive performance of traditional and machine learning-based models in forecasting NFL team winning percentages over a 21-season dataset (2003–2023). Specifically, we compare the Pythagorean expectation formula—commonly used in sports analytics—with Random Forest regression and a feedforward Neural Network model. Using key performance indicators such as points scored, points allowed, turnovers, rushing and passing eff…
The Effect of Periodontitis on Body Size Phenotypes in Adults without Diagnosed Chronic Diseases: The Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2013–2015
We aimed to examine the correlation between periodontitis and body size phenotypes in 7301 participants without diagnosed chronic diseases in the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2013–2015. The participants were categorized into the following body size phenotype groups based on body mass index and the presence of metabolic syndrome: metabolically healthy normal weight (MHNW), metabolically abnormal normal weight (MANW), met…

Diversity and age stereotypes in portrayals of older adults in popular American primetime television series
To examine the prevalence and diversity of older adults on primetime television, and age stereotyping in these portrayals, we analysed the contents of 112 episodes of popular American television series aired between 2004 and 2018. We identified 6.6 per cent of characters as aged 65 and older – a slight improvement to the values reported in previous studies. However, older adult characters are still grossly under-represented, considering the actua…
The influence of journalists' gender on newspaper stories about women Cabinet members in South Korea
This study examined whether there were differences in news reporting of women's subjects in South Korea due to reporter gender. The findings reveal that, in covering the women Cabinet members in South Korea, female reporters used a more positive tone, emphasized conflict news value less, used fewer stereotypical references to women, and employed more gender-sensitive perspectives than did male reporters. Our analysis also reveal that there was no…
