Virtual Presents, Future Strangers
This essay argues that Bersani's attempts to articulate a non-Cartesian form of knowledge production spur him to speculate anew about epistemology and ontology. Specifically, Bersani's late theory and practice of recategorization, a recursive engagement with thinkers and concepts that reveals thought's virtual potential, affords him the opportunity to conceive of a cognitive temporal unity and an immanentist conception of being. After exploring B…
Fascination
Bersanian fascination is not merely a fleeting affective state. It is, rather, a mode of inquiry and a form of being. If Bersani is initially fascinated with the antisocial nature of sexual desire, he later becomes enthralled with a notion of fascinated witnessing that reveals an ontological enmeshment. Screen Love
Screen Love
In work, play, education, and even healthcare, we are using social media during COVID-19 to approximate “normal life” before the pandemic. In Screen Love, Tom Roach urges us to do the opposite. Rather than highlight the ways that social media might help reproduce the pre-pandemic status quo, Roach explores how Grindr and other dating/hookup apps can help us envision a radically new normal: specifically, antinormative conceptions of selfhood and c…

Assessing the Intelligence of Aged Persons
Ammons and Ammons Quick Test (QT) was found to be applicable for intelligence testing with the aged. Normative data were presented for a sample who averaged 80.7 yr. Correlations among the three single forms and between the forms and the complete test were high (.80 to .93 for corrected IQs, .82 to .96 for uncorrected IQs). Performance on the test was not affected by socioeconomic status, institutionalization factors or anxiety level. The test's …
