The influence of the community climate on users’ knowledge-sharing intention: The social cognitive theory perspective
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the underlying mechanism of the community climate on knowledge-sharing intention in virtual communities. Based on social cognitive theory, a theoretical model was developed and empirically tested using a web-based survey of 525 members from an online question and answer (Q&A) community in China. Results showed that knowledge-sharing self-efficacy and outcome expectation played a chain mediation role in …
Depressive Symptoms among Chinese Informal Employees in the Digital Era
The mental health status of informal employees is rarely studied in China. Nowadays, new economic forms such as gig economy and platform economy are emerging with the rapid development of information and communication technology, which has brought great changes to the labor market, especially to the informal employment field. Thus, it is of great significance to investigate the depressive symptoms among informal employees in the digital era. Base…
The Agglomeration of Manufacturing Industry, Innovation and Haze Pollution in China: Theory and Evidence
Haze pollution in China is a serious environmental issue, which does harm both to people's health and to economic development. Simultaneously, as an important industrial development law, agglomeration may result in the increased concentration of manufacturing firms and, consequently, an increase in haze pollution. However, the positive externalities of agglomeration can also improve the efficiency of regional innovation, which curbs haze pollutio…

The role of social capital in predicting knowledge sharing has received considerable attention in research. However, very limited research has investigated the mechanisms mediating this relationship. To address this important gap in knowledge, the purpose of this study was to examine employee vigor as a psychological mechanism mediating the effect of social capital on tacit knowledge-sharing intention. Data collected from 209 employees in multipl…
Choosing fields of graduate study among Chinese and Taiwanese students
This study examines field of study patterns and their determinants among Chinese and Taiwanese students who come to the U.S. for the purpose of advancing their education. I argue that field of study choice is the result of both economic incentives as well as cultural and social values. Results suggest that funding from U.S. university sources channel Chinese and Taiwanese students into science- and technology-related fields. This study also sugge…
Socialization, Life Situations, and Gender-Role Attitudes regarding the Family among White American Women
There are two major theoretical perspectives explaining differences in gender-role attitudes: the socialization or social-learning theory, and situational theory in the form of macrosituational and microsituational (microstructural) hypotheses. In this article, we synthesize the two theories. We use data from the 1985 General Social Survey to evaluate this synthetic theory for white women in the United States. The findings show that socialization…
