  • Perception and Reality in the Provision of Insurance against Natural Perils in the UK

    J C Doornkamp•ARTICLE•Transactions of the Institute of…•1995•Cited by: 5•References: 2

The dynamic processes of geology, geomorphology and meteorology are the 'natural perils' of the insurer. Such perils continue to do damage and generate high insurance costs. As a result insurers are taking steps to limit their future losses. Three strands of geographical research are relevant here: (i) research into the dynamic events; (ii) analysis of the business management systems used by insurers to cope with natural peril events; and (iii) t…

Open Access•C Nicholas Raphael, Celine Raphael et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Review•1984•Cited by: 3

There are at least 350 cities with a population of over 100,000 and 30 cities with a population in excess of 1 million in arid zones. These rapidly growing urban areas are consuming much land that has distinctive features, hazards and resources. This book is an integrated and comprehensive appraisal of the geomorphology of such land. Engineers; planners; geologists; geographers; and to all concerned with development projects in drylands

  • The Role of Inselbergs in the Geomorphology of Southern Uganda

    J C Doornkamp•ARTICLE•Transactions of the Institute of…•1968•Cited by: 1

THE INSELBERGS of southern Uganda are situated in an area whose surface has experienced uplift and warping in the recent past. These surface deformations are the result of tectonic influences which, since the end of the Oligocene, have produced the Western Rift Valley. The purpose of this account is to define the nature of the inselbergs which occur within this recently warped area, and to examine their relationship to the post-Oligocene warping.…
