  • Competition in UK Higher Education

    Paul J Curran•ARTICLE•Studies in Higher Education•2001•Cited by: 2•References: 12

In a linked paper (Curran, 2000) Porter's diamond model of competitive advantage was proposed as a framework with which to evaluate the research performance of departments in UK higher education institutions. This article discusses the application of this model to an initial dataset of thirty-six departmental and institutional variables (later reduced to eight) for sixty-eight departments of geography. Approximately two-thirds of the variability …

  • Environmental Remote Sensing from Regional to Global Scales

    Peter Lawrence, G M Foody et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Journal•1996

Partial table of contents: Environmental Issues at Regional to Global Scales (P. Curran & G. Foody). Explaining and Monitoring Land Cover Dynamics in Drylands Using Multi-Temporal Analysis of NOAA AVHRR Imagery (A. Millington, et al.). Global Land Cover: Comparison of Ground-Based Data Sets to Classifications with AVHRR Data (R. DeFries & J. Townshend). A Near-Real-Time Heat Source Monitoring System Using NOAA Polar Orbiting Meteorological Satell…

  • Landsat MSS Imagery to Estimate Residential Heat-Load Density

    Open Access•Paul J Curran, T A Hobson•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•1987•References: 6

Combined heat and power (CHP) schemes have the potential for reducing residential heating costs. As these schemes use waste heat from electricity generation, the power station associated with them must, for reasons of efficiency, be near to a region where the heat usage per unit area (heat-load density) is high. To plan CHP schemes, the heat-load density of urban areas needs to be mapped and monitored. To calculate heat-load density for residenti…
