Educating, demystifying, destigmatising’: Black women’s perspectives on effective PrEP messaging in the USA
Black cisgender women in the USA are disproportionately affected by HIV but remain underrepresented in HIV-related pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) messaging. Despite PrEP's efficacy in preventing HIV, uptake among Black cisgender in the USA women remains low. This qualitative study explored how PrEP messaging can better resonate with Black women's interests and needs by focusing on their experiences and preferences. We conducted semi-structured i…
Challenges and Opportunities for Mathematics Software in Expert Problem Solving
Computer Algebra Systems and matrix-based mathematics packages provide sophisticated functionality to assist with mathematical problem solving. However, despite their widespread adoption, little work in the human–computer interaction community has examined the extent to which these computational tools support expert problem solving. In this article, we report findings from a qualitative study comparing and contrasting the work practices and softw…

Historical Dictionary of the United States Air Force and Its Antecedents
The Historical Dictionary of the United States Air Force and Its Antecedents presents terms of the significant events, important leaders, and technological improvements that define the evolution of the United States Air Force. From just three airmen in 1907, the USAF passed through a peak of 2.4 million service persons during World War II to reach its present strength of around 381,000 officers and airmen. Those 381,000 people are members of the …
The Representation Gap: Change and Reform in the British and American Workplace
For up to twenty years after the Second World War both in Britain and the US boasted `mature' industrial relations systems supported by their governments and, allowing for some differences in degree, by most employers. Since the early 1980s, these systems have been critically weakened. This comparative industrial relations text explains this development primarily through the withdrawal of public policy support and, mainly in Britain's case, its r…

The last explorer: Autobiography of Michael Terry
Michael Terry's autobiography is the story of a hard, adventurous life, much of it in northern and central Australian deserts. Born in 1899, Terry fought as a mechanic in World War 1 in a British armoured car brigade in a little known action in Russia. Gassed, he was invalided out and came to Western Australia in 1919 where, on a cattle station near Carnarvon, he discovered his love for the outback. After a spell as a car salesman in Sydney and a…
Analysing the Political Fund Ballots: A Remarkable Victory or the Triumph of the Status Quo
As noted above, the most remarkable feature of the results has been their consistency. And, although the more detailed figures show some interesting differences and material for speculation, they should not deflect attention too much from the overall results. Given the 1983 general election results and the MORI poll referred to earlier, it is not surprising that union officials concerned with the campaign are unanimous in seeing the campaign as a…
Industrial Relations in Britain
OVER THE PAST 20 YEARS academic social science has seen the growth of hybrid fields that have challenged the position of such established dis ciplines as sociology, political science, economics, psychology, and history. Criminology, media studies, and industrial relations now compete favoura bly for resources, students, and influence. Their claims of practical relevance have not been lost on policy makers, job seekers, and those who hold the purs…

Exploration of Australia
The Canning Basin of Western Australia
With its centre at approximately long. 1240 E., lat. 200 S. (or iooo miles north of Perth, the State capital) there exists in Western Australia a huge, virtually uninhabited region. Its features consist of scattered, table-top hills and almost universal sandhills and, since the initial penetration by Colonel Warburton in 1873, it has received probably less attention than any other portion of inland Australia. Its potential as an oil-bearing area …
Soil Erosion in Australia
NEW SOUTH WALES, the birthplace of Australian settlement and agri? culture, suffers from widespread soil erosion both in the farming areas and in the western grazing areas. To control this, the Soil Conservation Service (Director, Mr. E. E. Clayton) was established early in 1938, and has now begun work throughout the State. Observations have been made in the catchment areas of the Hume reservoir (Murray river), the Burrenjuck dam (Murrumbidgee), …

DURING June 1930 I was approached to lead a prospecting expedition to the Petermann and Tomkinson Ranges, and though a great part of the cool dry season had passed, it was nevertheless arranged that a party should enter the field. On July 17 Messrs. W. Williams, W. J. Bird, E. A. Colson, and I departed from Horseshoe Bend equipped with three months* stores, seven camels, and a British Morris truck. During thirteen weeks' absence we travelled outw…
