Daily water-level forecasting for multiple polish lakes using multiple data-driven models
Water level in lakes fluctuates frequently due to the impact of natural and anthropogenic forcing. Frequent fluctuations of water level will impact lake ecosystems, and it is thus of great significance to have a good knowledge of water-level dynamics in lakes. However, forecasting daily water-level fluctuation in lake systems remains a tough task due to its non-linearity and complexity. In this study, two deep data-driven models, including gated …
Bat algorithm optimised extreme learning machine (Bat-ELM)
Here, the capability of the Bat algorithm optimised extreme learning machines ELM (Bat-ELM) is demonstrated for river water temperature (Tw) modelling in the Orda River, Poland. Results using the multilayer perceptron neural network (MLPNN), the classification and regression Tree (CART) and the multiple linear regression (MLR) models were presented for comparison. The models were developed according to two scenarios: (1) using air temperature (Ta…
Ecological and Health Risk Assessments of Heavy Metals Contained in Sediments of Polish Dam Reservoirs
This study aimed at investigating the distribution of heavy metals (HMs: Zn, Pb, Cd, Ni, Cr, and Cu) in the bottom sediments of 28 reservoirs covered area of Poland. The paper evaluates the pollution of sediments with HMs and their potential toxic effects on aquatic organisms and human health on the basis of results provided by the Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection in Poland. The average concentrations of HMs in the bottom sediments …
The disappearance of ice cover on temperate lakes (Central Europe) as a result of climate warming
This paper presents changes in the ice regime of lakes located in the northern part of Poland. It has been established that in the period 1960–2019, there was a successive decline in the ice extent of lakes, clearly visible in individual parameters; formation of ice cover is delayed by 3.0 days/decade (on average for all lakes), its decline occurred earlier by 3.8 days/decade, and the length of ice cover is shorter by 6.8 days/decade. Moreover, t…
Managing Managed Care through Accreditation Standards
Accreditation is emerging as a dominant strategy for ensuring accountability and basic quality of services in managed care organizations. Knowledge of accreditation standards can help social workers interact effectively with managed care companies when requesting services for clients and appealing denials. Familiarity with patient's rights protections, the appeals process, and provider credentialing guidelines can help protect social workers as w…
