  • For me, it is for longevity and making sure I am fit and around for my children”

Open Access•Jennifer Teke, Obasanjo Afolabi Bolarinwa et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

The results of this study indicate that structural and person-level factors serve as both facilitators and barriers to weight management among ethnically diverse communities in Medway, England. While our study is exploratory and opens doors for more studies among the population, we conclude that these minoritised communities could benefit from more equitable, tailored weight management programmes to support them in adopting weight-related practic…

  • Prospects for simulating macromolecular surfactant chemistry at the ocean–atmosphere boundary

Open Access•Scott Elliott, Susannah M Burrows et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2014

Biogenic lipids and polymers are surveyed for their ability to adsorb at the water-air interfaces associated with bubbles, marine microlayers and particles in the overlying boundary layer. Representative ocean biogeochemical regimes are defined in order to estimate local concentrations for the major macromolecular classes. Surfactant equilibria and maximum excess are then derived based on a network of model compounds. Relative local coverage and …

Ethan H Decker, Scott Elliott et al.•ARTICLE•Annual Review of Energy and the…•2000

This paper reviews the available data and models on energy and material flows through the world's 25 largest cities. Throughput is categorized as stored, transformed, or passive for the major flow modes. The aggregate, fuel, food, water, and air cycles are all examined. Emphasis is placed on atmospheric pathways because the data are abundant. Relevant models of urban energy and material flows, demography, and atmospheric chemistry are discussed. …
