The Magnetic Variation in the Neigh Bourhood of the North Pole
This district begins at the south-west end of the Makwexgana spillway between the Chobe and the Okovango, which has not been flooded since 1910. It must be about dead level, since when it does flood, the Chobe and Okovango flood waters respectively meet halfway. The only Europeans who have traversed it, to my knowledge, are Major St. Hill Gibbons in 1898, when on his way from the Chobe he turned back halfway, meeting there the rising flood water …
