  • The use of simulation models in teaching geomorphology and hydrology

    M J Kirkby, Mike Kirkby et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Geography in Higher…•1988•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 2

Learning about the physical environment from computer simulation models is discussed in terms of three stages: exploration, experiment and calibration. Many questions about the way the environment responds, or might respond, to external stimuli can be answered most effectively through simulation. Effective project work can also be carried out by attempting to fit a model to measured data, and critically evaluating parameter values and the choice …

  • A physically based, variable contributing area model of basin hydrology / Un modèle à base physique de zone d'appel variable de l'hydrologie du bassin versant

    Keith Beven, K J BEVEN et al.•ARTICLE•Hydrological Sciences Bulletin•1979

A hydrological forecasting model is presented that attempts to combine the important distributed effects of channel network topology and dynamic contributing areas with the advantages of simple lumped parameter basin models. Quick response flow is predicted from a storage/contributing area relationship derived analytically from the topographic structure of a unit within a basin. Average soil water response is represented by a constant leakage inf…
