Caio Victor Sousa, John E Lewis et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2021

HIV is a worldwide public health issue affecting millions of individuals, and people living with HIV (PLWH) are often affected by depression. Nonetheless, exercise can prevent and treat depression among PLWH. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of exercise on depression symptoms in PLWH. Using a prospective single-arm trial, a semi-supervised community-based exercise intervention was offered 3 times/week for 12 weeks to PLW…

  • The Relationship between HIV Duration, Insulin Resistance and Diabetes Risk

Open Access•Eduard Tiozzo, Allan Rodríguez et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

The risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in people living with HIV (PLWH) can be four times greater and can occur at an earlier age and even without the presence of obesity compared to those without HIV. Therefore, the purpose of this analytical cross-sectional study was to determine the relationship between HIV duration and glucose metabolism among PLWH. Eighty-two PLWH were categorized into shorter (≤15 years) or longer HIV duration (≥16…

    Frank C Bandiera, Kristopher L Arheart et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2010

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association between secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure and depression. Tobacco smoking and depression are strongly associated, but the possible effects of SHS have not been evaluated. METHODS: The 2005 to 2006 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) is a cross-sectional sample of the noninstitutionalized civilian U.S. population. SHS exposure was measured in adults aged > or =20 years by serum cotinine an…

Liat Vidal, William G LeBlanc et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2009•Cited by: 1•References: 9

Regular cancer screening can prevent the development of some cancers and increase patient survival for other cancers. We evaluated the reported cancer screening prevalence among a nationally representative sample of all US workers with data from the 2000 and 2005 Cancer Screening Supplements of the National Health Interview Survey. Overall, workers with the lowest rates of health insurance coverage (in particular, Hispanic workers, agricultural w…

  • The cross-cultural applications of the Kait: Case studies with three differentially acculturated women

    Stephen A Russo, John E Lewis•ARTICLE•Cultural Diversity & Ethnic…•1999•Cited by: 1

The Kaufman Adolescent and Adult Intelligence Test (KAIT), introduced in 1993, is a relatively new measure for the assessment of intelligence. Because of the test's theoretical foundation, standardization procedure, test items, and score interpretations, it is assumed to be a culturally sensitive measure. However, there is little supporting clinical or empirical evidence. The present case study examined cross-cultural applications of the KAIT usi…

    Open Access•John E Lewis, Toby N Carlson•ARTICLE•Canadian Geographies /…•1989•References: 12

Satellite imagery from the Heat Capacity Mapping Mission (HCMM) was analysed for Montreal, Quebec. From this imagery, regional metropolitan maps of day/night surface temperatures are produced for an area of approximately 10 4 km 2 . With the implementation of a surface energy budget model coupled with the satellite data, maps of non‐radiative transfers (sensible and latent energy), along with surface properties (moisture availability and thermal …

ROBERT W PEASE, John E Lewis et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of the Association of…•1976

Urban areas have been conceived of as monolithic heat islands because traditional ground observation techniques do not lend themselves to more specific analyses. Observations of urban energy-exchange obtained from calibrated electro-optical scanners combined with energy budget simulation techniques provide tools to relate the urban land use mosaic to the heat island phenomenon. Maps of surface energy-related phenomena were made from airborne scan…
