  • Connectivity in hydrology and sediment dynamics

Open Access•Saskia D Keesstra, Saskia Keesstra et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2020

Connectivity has emerged as a significant conceptual framework for understanding the transfer of surface water and sediment through landscapes. The concept has been widely adopted in the field of catchment hydrology but has also been valuable to investigate rates of soil erosion by water and sediment export across landscapes. To study connectivity, we gathered a group of scientists that worked on synthesizing and consolidating all theories and as…

  • Perceptions of desert landscape: A case study in southern N ew M exico

    Open Access•Yang Yu, Anthony J Parsons et al.•ARTICLE•Area•2013•References: 24

This research investigates perceptions of desert landscape held by different actor groups (resident versus expert group – including land developers, local politicians, city planners and NGOs ) in N ew M exico, USA . The results of this study found that although people share common appreciation of cultural and aesthetic landscape values, different perceptions and valuations are conflicting when special interests and needs of actors are apparent. N…

  • Geomorphology of Desert Environments

    A Warren, Atholl D Abrahams et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Journal•1996•Cited by: 3•References: 1

In popular concept, a desert should be hot, barren, and, preferably, sandy. In reality, many deserts are few, or none of these things. Most deserts are, however, areas of aridity, and it is upon this property that the scientific definition of deserts has generally hinged. Even so, providing an acceptable measure of aridity upon which to base a definition of desert areas has not been straightforward, and several attempts based upon a variety of ge…

  • A Technique for the Classification of Hill-Slope Forms

    Anthony J Parsons•ARTICLE•Transactions of the Institute of…•1978•Cited by: 1•References: 1

A technique for classifying hill-slopes on the basis of measurable morphological attributes is described and illustrated. Four components of hill-slope morphology are identified. These are dimension, shape, slope and degree of surface irregularity. From field measurements of hill-slopes, surveyed in measured lengths, best segment profiles (Young, 1971) are obtained and for these profiles sixteen measurable attributes that summarize the four compo…
