  • Knowledge Production in the Humanities

    Open Access•Kathleen Wallace•ARTICLE•European Journal of Pragmatism…•2024

In Toward a Pragmatist Philosophy of the Humanities (Pihlstrm 2022) Sami Pihlstrm argues that the humanities are truth-aiming and knowledge-producing.Reductive ontological and narrow epistemological views, and "post-truth" views in the humanities, have devalued their cognitive contributions as knowledge-producing research programs.Pihlstrm argues that a pragmatic approach to knowledge in a Peircean vein suggests a broader ontological and epistemo…

Methods: This descriptive study included a convenience sample of 20 hospitalized children, ages 5–18 in the United States. Dra…

  • Reconstructing Judgment

    Open Access•Kathleen Wallace•ARTICLE•Hypatia•1993•Cited by: 1•References: 10

A traditional association of judgment with “reason” has drawn upon and reinforced an opposition between reason and emotion. This, in turn, has led to a restricted view of the nature of moral judgment and of the subject as moral agent. The alternative, I suggest, is to abandon the traditional categories and to develop a new theory of judgment. I argue that the theory of judgment developed by Justus Buchler constitutes a robust alternative which do…
