  • US War Culture and the Destiny of the Empire

    Changming Liu•ARTICLE•International Critical Thought•2022•References: 1

In an important sense, the history of the United States is a bloody record of war. Founded less than two and a half centuries ago, the US has fought more than two hundred wars. War has brought the US enormous political, economic, territorial and ideological benefits, which is the reason why the country has waged wars so frequently. Today the US, at the center of a new type of empire of financial colonialism, continues to ignite wars in many parts…

  • Potential role of permafrost thaw on increasing Siberian river discharge

Open Access•Ping Wang, Qiwei Huang et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2021

Despite the increasing Siberian river discharge, the sensitivity of streamflow to climate forcing/permafrost thawing is poorly quantified. Based on the Budyko framework and superposition principles, we detected and attributed the changes in streamflow regimes for the three great Siberian rivers (Ob, Yenisei, and Lena) during 1936–2019. Over the past 84 years, streamflow of Ob, Yenisei and Lena has increased by ∼7.7%, 7.4% and 22.0%, respectively.…

  • Evaluation and machine learning improvement of global hydrological model-based flood simulations

Open Access•Tao Yang, Fubao Sun et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2019

A warmer climate is expected to accelerate global hydrological cycle, causing more intense precipitation and floods. Despite recent progress in global flood risk assessment, the accuracy and improvement of global hydrological models (GHMs)-based flood simulation is insufficient for most applications. Here we compared flood simulations from five GHMs under the Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project 2a (ISIMIP2a) protocol, against thos…

  • The Chinese herbal formula Zhibai Dihuang Granule treat Yin-deficiency-heat syndrome rats by regulating the immune responses

    Open Access•Changming Liu, Chang-Ming Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2018

  • China’s ‘Belt and Road’ Strategy in Eurasia and Euro-Atlanticism

Serafettin Yilmaz, Changming Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Europe Asia Studies•2018•Cited by: 4•References: 10

The focus of this article is two-pronged. First, it highlights China’s ‘One Belt, One Road’ (OBOR) initiative as a Eurasia-centred project that, distinct from the twentieth-century Eurasianism, aims to introduce a new comprehensive integrationist agenda to the Eurasian strategic landscape. Second, it compares the US-led Euro-Atlanticism and the emerging Eurasianism, holding that while the former has historically stressed security over development…

  • Investigation of changes in the annual maximum flood in the Yellow River basin, China

Open Access•Peng Bai, Xiaomang Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2016

Flooding in the Yellow River basin (YRB) has changed significantly over the last few decades because of climate change and human activities. Determining how the flooding changed and identifying the main driving factors of flood change is crucial to flood risk assessment and water resources planning. However, few studies have been conducted, especially in the whole YRB. To fill this gap, we investigate the spatial and temporal change of the annual…

  • Impacts of varying agricultural intensification on crop yield and groundwater resources: Comparison of the North China Plain and US High Plains

Open Access•Hongwei Pei, Bridget R Scanlon et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2015

Agricultural intensification is often considered the primary approach to meet rising food demand. Here we compare impacts of intensive cultivation on crop yield in the North China Plain (NCP) with less intensive cultivation in the US High Plains (USHP) and associated effects on water resources using spatial datasets. Average crop yield during the past decade from intensive double cropping of wheat and corn in the NCP was only 15% higher than the …

  • Status and distribution pattern of black crested gibbon (Nomascus concolor jingdongensis) in Wuliang Mountains, Yunnan, China: Implication for conservation

Open Access•Xuelong Jiang, Zhonghua Luo et al.•ARTICLE•Primates•2006
