Continuity and Rupture
Studies of the Latin tradition played a major role in the formation of Comparative Literature as a discipline. In spite of their shared origins, the disciplines of Neo-Latin studies and Comparative Literature are today rarely brought into dialogue with one another. This article argues that such dialogues can be mutually productive, and that Neo-Latin literature exemplifies, and itself engages with, some of the key problems at issue in the latest …

This article analyzes the dynamic interactions of Latin and the vernacular in commentary editions of the Latin classics printed in France before 1600, addressing questions of readership, intended uses, and actual uses. Representation and Illusion in the Elegies of Théodore de Béze
In 1548, before his conversion to Protestantism, Théodore de Bèze published a collection of Latin poetry containing a book of twelve elegies written in imitation of Ovid. He would later disown his youthful love poems as frivolous, and his Catholic and Lutheran opponents would gleefully cite them as evidence of his moral and theological bankruptcy. A Methodological Approach to Assessing the Health Impact of Environmental Chemical Mixtures
We describe an approach to examine the association between exposure to chemical mixtures and a health outcome, using as our case study polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and hypertension. The association between serum PCB and hypertension among participants in the 1999-2004 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey was examined.
