  • Only Slavic Gods

    Open Access•Scott Simpson•CHAPTER•Cosmopolitanism, Nationalism, and…•2017

Simpson explores how “nativeness” is construed in the worldview of Polish Rodzimowierstwo, a polytheistic spirituality based in pre-Christian Slavic traditions which emphasizes the use of historically and ethnographically reliable sources, specifically those considered “native.” Simpson argues that an understanding of nativeness within Rodzimowierstwo often falls in concentric circles—tribal (local), national (Polish), and ethno-linguistic (Slavi…

  • Carbon and Nitrogen Export from Semiarid Uplands to Perennial Rivers

    Open Access•T Meixner, Paul Brooks et al.•ARTICLE•Geography Compass•2012•References: 41

Investigations of biogeochemical processes in semiarid environments have largely focused on either plot studies in the uplands or on in-stream and near stream reaction or transport studies. Recent research permits us to synthesize a conceptual model of how uplands and riparian systems are linked in semiarid climates specific to the San Pedro River basin in Arizona. These studies have demonstrated significant export of both dissolved and sediment …

    Marie Hardin, Scott Simpson et al.•ARTICLE•Mass Communication & Society•2007•Cited by: 10•References: 10

Title IX, the 1972 federal law that guarantees girls and young women access to scholastic sporting opportunities, has been the catalyst for explosive growth in female athletics. Despite evidence that Title IX has opened doors for female athletes without closing them to boys, the law continues to be a source of controversy. This research explores the ways stories in U.S. regional and national newspapers framed Title IX issues between 2002 and 2005…

Open Access•Tim D White, Gen Suwa et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2000

The Maka locality in Ethiopia's Middle Awash area has yielded new craniodental remains dated to 3.4 million years (myr) in age. These remains are described and assessed functionally and systematically. The fossils are assigned to Australopithecus afarensis. Maka thus joins Hadar and Laetoli as the third major locality yielding this species. As with previous site samples, the Maka collection displays a wide range of size variation. The nearly comp…
