Mission-Guided Geographic Education at an HBCU in Baltimore City, MD (USA)
Mission-guided geographic education presents an opportunity for transformative experiences both within the classroom and beyond, especially at institutions where geography is underrepresented. Additionally, I highlight inspirational sources that informed the design of the course. In closin…

Research Misconduct Involving Noncompliance in Human Subjects Research Supported by the Public Health Service
Over the past three decades, two separate federal regulatory structures have emerged, each seeking to assure separate aspects of the integrity and ethics of research conducted using federal funding. One set of regulations is described in the Public Health Service Policies on Research Misconduct and relates to research misconduct, defined as consisting of fabrication of data or results, falsification of data and results, or plagiarism, in accordan…
The Spanish-American War and Philippine Insurrection, 1898-1902
An often overshadowed event in American military history, the Spanish-American War began as a humanitarian effort on the part of the United States to provide military assistance for the liberation of Cuba from Spanish domination. At the time, no one knew that this simple premise would result in an American empire. Through extensive research, Mark Barnes has created a comprehensive, annotated bibliography detailing this globally significant confli…

Chevron v Echazabal
In June of 2002, the US Supreme Court upheld a regulation that allows employers, under the Americans with Disabilities Act, to make disability-related employment decisions based on risks to an employee’s own personal health or safety. Previous judicial decisions had allowed employers to make employment decisions based on the threat that a worker’s medical condition posed to others but had not addressed the issue of risk posed to an employee’s hea…

Excavations in Hispanic period sites in the Tucson Basin and San…
Preservation of Archaeological Sites through Acquisition
Site acquisition or placing of preservation easements on archaeological sites are the best means currently available for insuring site preservation for future research. The examples presented are intended to inform the archaeological community about agencies involved in the acquisition of archaeological sites
A Response to Raab and Klinger on Archaeological Site Significance
The authors of this response believe that problem-oriented significance for archaeological sites can be accommodated within the existing National Register criterion. In addition, the authors feel that closer relationships between the archaeological community, federal agencies, and the State Historic Preservation Officers will result in the preservation of archaeological sites
Mission Guevavi
Investigations at an 18th century Jesuit mission near Nogales, Arizona were undertaken in 1964–65 and 1965–66 by the Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society. Nine rooms in the living quarters were fully or partially excavated as well as some outlying structures. Material culture was sparse as the mission had evidently been intentionally stripped upon abandonment about 1773. Architectural remains were not sufficiently diagnostic to determine…
