  • Sars-Cov-2 Seroprevalence Among Healthcare Workers Compared to the General Population, 2021-22

    Open Access•Vânia Gaio, P Amaral et al.•ARTICLE•Gaceta Sanitaria•2025

Healthcare workers (HCWs) are essential as frontline responders during infectious disease health emergencies. Protecting them is crucial to ensure their health, maintain continuous patient care, and prevent transmission to patients. This study aimed to estimate the SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence trend among HCWs from a Portuguese hospital cohort between May 2021 and June 2022. It also aimed to compare it with the seroprevalence trend in the general po…

  • Investigating the role of symptom valorisation in tuberculosis patient delay in urban areas in Portugal

Open Access•Margarida de Morais, Sofia Sousa et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

These findings emphasise the importance of symptom valorisation in timely TB diagnosis. Patients who did not value their symptoms had longer PD, indicating a need for interventions to improve symptom recognition. Our findings also corroborate the importance of the socioeconomic determinants of health, highlighting tobacco as a risk factor both for TB and for PD

  • Mapping of serological testing and Sars-CoV-2 seroprevalence studies performed in 20 European countries, March-June 2020

Open Access•Laura Bubba, Peter Simmonds et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2021

BACKGROUND: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic spread across Europe from February 2020. While robust SARS-CoV-2 serological assays were quickly developed, only limited information on applied serological testing is available. We describe the extent and nature of SARS-CoV-2 serological testing used in Europe and assess the links between epidemiology, mitigation strategies applied and seroprevalence. METHODS: An online questionnaire on SARS-CoV-2 serology was …

  • Depression and unemployment incidence rate evolution in Portugal, 1995–2013

Open Access•Ana Paula Rodrigues, Mafalda Sousa‐Uva et al.•ARTICLE•Revista de Saúde Pública•2017

OBJECTIVE: Quantify, for both genders, the correlation between the depression incidence rate and the unemployment rate in Portugal between 1995 and 2013. METHODS: An ecological study was developed to correlate the evolution of the depression incidence rates estimated by the General Practitioner Sentinel Network and the annual unemployment rates provided by the National Statistical Institute in official publications. RESULTS: There was a positive …

  • Does exist a way to Manage HR in Portugal? An Analysis from German Multinationals HRM Practices

    Open Access•Pedro Cardoso, Pedro J S Cardoso et al.•ARTICLE•Gestão e Sociedade•2017

Multinationals have operating problems due to the multiple contexts in which they operate. One of the greatest challenges for these organizations is the management of the cultural diversity of their human resources, in the sense of creating a collective of work capable of meeting the goals of the new economy. In Portugal, of the most represented countries at the level of their multinationals, Germany is the one that has a more antagonistic cultur…

  • Main causes of death in Dande, Angola

Open Access•Edite Rosário, Diogo Costa et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016

Infectious diseases were the leading CoD in this region. Verbal autopsies proved useful to identify the main CoD, being an important tool in settings where vital statistics are scarce and death registration systems have limitations

  • Trade-offs and Synergies Between Provisioning and Regulating Ecosystem Services in a Mountain Area in Portugal Affected by Landscape Change

Open Access•Ângelo Sil, Ana Paula Rodrigues et al.•ARTICLE•Mountain Research and Development•2016

This study explored the effects of landscape change on the provision of ecosystem services in a mountain area in northern Portugal, in particular the trade-offs and synergies between services in 2 categories: provisioning and regulating. Services were assessed for 1990 and 2006 and projected for 2020 under 3 scenarios, both biophysically and economically, based on modeling and published and unpublished statistics. We found that landscape changes …
