  • Financialization of Housing in Mexico

Susanne Heeg, María Verónica Ibarra García et al.•ARTICLE•Housing Policy Debate•2020

For more than 30 years, housing in Mexico has been undergoing a transformation that is best studied using INFONAVIT and FOVISSSTE as starting points. Both funds were established in 1972 to implement the constitutional right to decent housing for workers and state employees in Mexico. In their first few years, both funds were responsible for, among other things, granting loans and investigating ways to achieve low-cost but high-quality housing. Ho…

This article presents two cases of listed real estate companies that operate in the Ruhr metropolitan region of Germany. The first is Immeo Wohnen, a subsidiary of the French real estate investment trust (REIT) Foncière des Régions that was previously owned by a US hedge fund. The second is Vonovia, Germany's largest real estate company, originally a subsidiary of a British private equity firm. Both examples embody what we call the shift from fin…

  • Communities of practice and transnational standards

    Open Access•Susanne Heeg, Nadine Bitterer•ARTICLE•Global Networks•2015•Cited by: 5•References: 27

In 1989, Warsaw's office market became part of the global property market with a growing transparency. This process of integration is attributable to an increasing level of professionalism of its agents. Our main interest here is in the introduction of international design and building norms. We argue that, in the interplay between global and local property professionals, new institutional arrangements emerge that lead to the establishment of int…

  • The erosion of corporatism? The rescaling of industrial relations in Germany

    Open Access•Susanne Heeg•ARTICLE•European Urban and Regional Studies•2012•Cited by: 4•References: 1

By the 1980s, some scholars had already claimed that corporatism, as an expression and institution of the bilateral negotiations between trade unions and employers’ associations, had come to an end. This perception is stronger nowadays than it was then. Quite often it is argued that, as a result of economic liberalisation and the paradigm shift from Keynesianism to Monetarism, industrial relations are under pressure, and that this is accompanied …

  • Property-led development als neuer Ansatz in der Stadtentwicklung? Das Beispiel der South Boston Waterfront in Boston

    Open Access•Susanne Heeg•ARTICLE•Erdkunde•2008

Property-led development as a new approach in urban development? South Boston Waterfront in Boston as a case study. In many cities, property-led development seems to be an attractive and practicable strategy in order to enhance socioeconomic growth. Cities boost with attractive investment environments and locations in large-scale redevelopments in order to attract external investors and affluent households. Urban development projects are part and…

This article analyses the process of the expansion and integration of the EU from the perspective of a transformation to a competitive state formation. The recent construction of the EU is based on institutional arrangements which aim to combine different politics of scale with a general improvement of economic competitiveness and administrative efficiency. Recent theoretical advancement in state theory are applied in order to emphasise innovativ…
