Portuguese Immigrant Experience in America in Autobiography
Discussion of eleven memoirs by Portuguese immigrants and Luso-Americans in the U.S. First, the author focuses on the thematic content and some of the structural features of each of the texts. Afterwards, he surveys some theories of immigrant autobiography in order to account for the most salient experiential and ideological patterns that recur, with variations, in the eleven texts studied
