Teresa of Ávila As Literary Trope and the Co-patronage Debate
This article is an examination of the poetry and prose composed initially for the beatification and canonization of Teresa of Ávila and later in efforts to name her co-patron of Spain. All fields have traditionally aspired to a private model of professionalism, but this model is inappropriate for public professions like social work. This article explores the implications of this dilemma for social work
Ethics and Professional Practice in Planning and Related Policy Professions
Ethical principles in professions can be related either to ends or to means. This article explores attitudes about the ethics of means among urban planners. A variety of means are classified into a hierarchy, from the most to the least ethical, and differences in responses to this hierarchy are explored. Implications for other public policy fields are also discussed
The Ethics of Contemporary American Planners
This article, based on a study of a large, randomly selected group of American planners, looks at what planners think is ethical, and why. Although many planners have similar views about what is ethical, sharp differences are also clearly apparent. Chief among the reasons for these differences is role orientation. Legislative Outcomes in Human Services
Outcomes or benefits resulting from any legislative process are not evenly distributed to all social groups. In particular, the poor are at a significant disadvantage in policymaking because they are devalued both by society at large and by legislators who reflect general social values.
