    This article serves both as an introduction to Padura Fuentes's tetralogy of detective novels and also to the interview with the author that follows it. The four novels are modelled on the hardboiled or 'noire' US model rather than on the British whodunnit. Padura cubanizes this model and turns it against the Cuban political establishment. The texts are concerned with corruption in high places and, through the experience of the detective and his …
